Seedling Newsletter: Vol 10

— March 22, 2024 —

Welcome to the 10th edition of Seedling's newsletter! Today, we're putting the spotlight on our in-class program at Green Street Academy. 🎒

A Peek Inside:

Our Classroom Program

One day a week, Seedling hosts a program in the classroom of 7th-grade science teacher Ms. Mitzel at Green Street Academy. So far, students have learned about plant science, nutrition, and sustainability through a variety of hands-on demonstrations and projects! They're pictured here helping set up classroom hydroponics units, which help bring concepts in plant anatomy and sustainable agriculture to life. 💡

On Our Socials:

Bean Dissection Lab

One of our first lessons covers soil, seeds, and plant anatomy! Interactive activities like soil sampling and a lima bean dissection illustrate important ideas and definitions. Try this at home - after soaking a bean in water and splitting it in half, can you see the seed coat and baby plant? 🫛

Up next for the GSA scholars: once they are back from break, we'll transition into the second half of our curriculum. Spanning water quality, coding, CAD, and business, it is targeted at developing career-ready technical and soft skills. 💼
