Imagine...

now a Worldwide NGO / 501c3 nonprofit with an unusual GivingTuesday request.

November 2022

You’ll Never Hear this from an NGO

For GivingTuesday November 29

Mid 2022 Imagine Mindfulness LLC closed its doors and Imagine – A Worldwide NGO was born! As the interim Executive Director, I would like everyone to know that we will continue to do things differently, be counter-cultural when it comes to money, and provide access, inclusion, and community as the principles that guide us. We’re joining GivingTuesday because we resonate with this “global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world".

Here’s our first request for funds.

Imagine is doing well right now, so we would like to encourage you to give to an organization that assists Ukrainian refugees to make it through the coming winter. Or consider finding another worthy cause you would like to support. That’s it, Imagine will finish 2022 okay financially and we’ll see what 2023 brings.

Nonprofit organizations always need more, we understand this. Through the generosity of our students, we’ve managed the costly change of becoming an NGO, aka a 501c3 nonprofit in the US. We are able to pay all of our expenses and prepare for classes in the winter, spring, and fall of 2023. Next year, if we need your help financially, we’ll ask you for it! Right now, there are many refugees in the EU and around the world that need your help more. That’s why we’re lending our support to their situation.

We continue to be an organization that relies solely on volunteers, as we have for the last 6 years that we’ve been providing MBSR for a $50 fee. With costs of everything going up (for Imagine as well), we continue to keep our fees reasonable for MBSR. No one gets turned away!

Our hope for 2023 and beyond is to find like-minded people and have them join us as Imagine expands beyond MBSR. We’re developing an inter-dependent community dedicated to supporting each other and the world with compassion as the key and MBSR as our core practice. We will be exploring options in art, music, and dance as we branch out, discovering and adding healing practice to our offerings.

So, as the song says, ”You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one”, if the way we imagine interests you, please let us know – we would love to talk with you!

Wishing everyone peace and health through the holidays and the close of 2022!

We're excited to share a new study that was published in JAMA Psychiatry (a top of the line, high impact scientific journal). This rigorously designed study supports what we have known for decades: MBSR is as effective as the top of the line drug treatment for anxiety disorders. Participants were 1:1 randomized to 8 weeks of the weekly MBSR course or the antidepressant escitalopram. Results show no difference between MBSR and the premier drug treatment in treating anxiety disorders. LINK to actual paper.
