Dear WHECES families, We can't believe it's already October! We are looking forward to a fall season filled with fun for our students and community. Please join us on Thursday, October 6th at 7:30 am on the corner of Martinez and San Feliciano for National Walk to School Day! Some of our teachers will be cheering us on and it will be a wonderful way to reduce traffic and get some exercise. Wear your school spirit wear and if you need to buy some, stop by the marquee before drop off on Monday, October 3rd! You can pay by cash, Venmo, or PayPal. We will honor Latine and Hispanic Heritage month with two restaurant nights at two Mission Burrito locations. See you on October 10th at their Victory/Woodland Hills location and October 12th at their West Hills/Roscoe location. Bring your flyer or mention our school for the fundraiser. Please help us reach our goal of 100% participation in our HERO campaign! Donate any amount and see the info below on rewards. Please Help Education Remain Outstanding! The following information is from UTLA: “On Tuesday, in the face of overwhelming educator unity, LAUSD agreed that the school year will not be extended by any days and the four optional days will be moved to the winter and spring breaks. UTLA members who work at LAUSD sites will vote on the calendar bargaining agreement from Sunday, October 2, to Tuesday, October 4.” If educators vote to approve the proposal, October 19th and the other acceleration days will be regular school days. Dear WHECES Families, Thank you to the families who attended the Coffee with the Principal last week where we discussed our School Safety Plan. I appreciate your input. School will be closed on Wednesday, October 5, and resume on Thursday, October 6. The Choices application will open up on October 3 and close on November 18. I will be giving tours to prospective families interested in applying to our school at 8:45 am on October, 13, 18, 28, and November 2, 7, and 15. We will also have a middle school Choices night on October 20 at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. Local middle schools will be here to answer your questions. Thursday, October 6, is Walk to School Day. I look forward to walking with everyone. Don’t forget to wear your Spirit Wear, positive affirmation, or sports team shirt that day. Friday, October 7 is our October all-school assembly. All families are invited to attend. Please stand behind the orange cones and not in line with your child. October 20 is the Great Shake Out Drill. We will hold a staged earthquake drill that day. Students will be outside for approximately 30 minutes while the emergency teams practice their roles. The week of October 24 is Red Ribbon Week. The theme will be Celebrate Life and Live Healthy. All students are encouraged to wear red on Tuesday, October 25. October 26 is College Day. Students are encouraged to wear college shirts or the colors of their favorite college team. Staff will be wearing their college shirts and will share stories about their school with their students. Please remember to leave home a little early in the morning to prevent traffic around our school. Be respectful of other families and our neighbors. Have a wonderful week! HERO The HERO campaign is at full throttle and the donations keep coming in…yay!!! Thank you to everyone who has contributed thus far but we are still far away from reaching our goal of raising $150K AND having 100% participation from our WHECES families. Shirts are coming soon (FINALLY! Supply chain issues have not been fun, folks), and magnets are going to be a little longer but we can’t wait to see our students wearing their HERO shirts every Friday for “HERO Friday”.
Envelopes will be dropped off on Monday for each classroom to collect HERO forms/payments so if you still have your HERO form, please fill it out and turn it in to your classroom OR you can drop off your form/payment in the HERO BASKET located in the office (please DO NOT place it in the red PATT box). You may also donate by going to: https://www.mypatt.org/hero-campaign OR you can donate (in one lump sum only) via VENMO at @patt-team. Please be sure to include “HERO”, your child’s name/teacher, and shirt size in the comments section.
For more details about the HERO campaign (our school’s largest fundraiser), please see the attached form/FAQ. We have lots of goodies for our families who contribute and every child whose family contributes to HERO will receive a shirt…..and remember, the more you give, the more you get, the more our school benefits!!
Lastly, if you have a business and would like a corporate banner, an option to purchase one is on the form as well.
The class that has 100% participation in the HERO campaign will earn a class pizza party AND each student in that class will receive a gift certificate for one (1) scoop of ice cream from Cup and Cone.

FALL FESTIVAL The Fall Festival presented by WHECES PATT is back! The festivities will take place on campus on Saturday, November 5th from noon to 6 PM. We will have food trucks, a fun house, carnival games and prizes, and a live DJ and entertainment presented by our students. We will also have a bake sale, and silent auction, and our 5th-grade class also has some fun in store for you! An obstacle course and inflatable slide will also be available for added entertainment! Admission to the actual festival is free and tickets to take part in the individual festival activities will go on sale soon. All proceeds from the festival will go towards the numerous improvements PATT supports for our school. All are welcome…so mark your calendars, bring the entire family, and come join us for the fun! You don't want to miss this exciting fall event! |

Birthday Marquee Celebrate your WHECES student’s birthday by having their name posted on our school’s Birthday Marquee. Many spots are still available and it only costs $30 (all proceeds go to PATT benefitting the students of WHECES)! Your child’s name will appear Monday through Sunday for all their friends to see so sign up today by going to:

The Marquee is updated on Monday mornings. Therefore, the deadline to sign up will be the Sunday the week you wish to have your child’s name appear. After that, no dates will be available to be added that week. No exceptions.
