Barn Talk June
Welcome Winter!!!!!
Are we all sitting by our fires with a warm drink? What a change with that chill blast!
One minute our horses are running around naked and the next they are in rugs. That is another matter for another day - to rug or unrug.
Winter brings its own difficulties for me to treat horses. When treating a horse we really need it to be dry especially with massage as it can actually cause burns to the skin with friction. The horse is already using its body internal system to the max to keep itself warm so if I stimulate the body which is what I do then we only create another issue of the body being fatigued and then the treatment is no help whatsoever.
So it has been steady but I have had a ball with my treatments. I got to see the wonderful Aussie in treatment and then in competition which I love. So if you have a horse I have treated please feel free to let me know if you are competing and I would love to come and watch - I can even take photos.
On a personal note I have taken a break from studying iridology for horses, I was just stretching myself too far. I am hopefully back in the saddle in a few weeks after my recovery which will be awesome. I have also ceased my other job which was my office job so more time for my true love horses.
Winter whilst being a pain to do a treatment is a perfect opportunity for your horse. How many of you have horses that skid in the muddy paddocks? They stretch their muscles and the constant wet is great for abscess and of course I have an acupuncture treatment for that. So just because you are not our riding or competing as much does not mean your horse's body does not need re-balancing. Remember also to look after yourself as well!
Keep safe and dry and remember even though you can’t get out everyday on your horse remember brushing is a great bonding time and also prompts a small mini massage.
Keep safe till next Barn Talk
