Aurora City Council Newsletter

Welcome to my periodic newsletter where I'll keep you up-to-date with what's going on with Aurora City Council - what we've voted on, what we've studied and more.

It has been several months since I have sent out a newsletter. Many of you know we welcomed a new addition to our family early in 2021. That has taken up quite a bit of time but I'd like to get back to my periodic updates in order to keep you informed of what's going on with Aurora City Council.

In the last several months, Aurora has continued to resume "normal life" after the COVID-19 pandemic. If you haven't been vaccinated yet, or might be looking for a booster shot, the City hosts a FREE vaccine clinic on the weekends. You can find details here.

Since my last newsletter, I have moved forward a few items of note:

1. Restorative Justice: I worked with CMs Allison Hiltz and Angela Lawson to introduce restorative justice to the Aurora Municipal Courts. I'd like to thank my colleagues for supporting this measure unanimously. We are in the process of designing the program with more details to come. Just last week, the 18th Judicial District and DA John Kellner announced a new diversion program with an office in Aurora - we can continue to hold criminals responsible for their crimes while also making sure people, especially our younger residents, don't get caught up in the system for making a mistake. You can read more about the 18th JD efforts here.

2. Ladder Truck for Station 8: At the most recent budget workshop on September 25, I brought forward a motion to add a new ladder company to Aurora Fire Rescue, including 17 new Firefighters. Again, my colleagues supported the effort unanimously. It was long overdue as we try to bring our fire department up to speed with other agencies in the metro area.

On November 2, Aurora will hold municipal elections. This upcoming election is very important for the direction of our city. Efforts like public safety, economic development & job growth, as well as adequate funding for core city services like roads are at stake.
