Baghdeda Wedding Tragedy

We're deeply saddened by the tragic fire at the Baghdeda wedding hall, claiming numerous lives and leaving many injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. The toll is devastating, with over 100 casualties reported. In response to inquiries about how to help, we've launched a GoFundMe campaign. Just like all Shlama Foundation projects, we prioritize transparency. Every dollar donated will be fully accounted for, with receipts posted on our website. Your support matters, and together, we can make a difference.

Project Updates from the Shlama Team

Remodel of Grocery Shop in Baghdeda

Amu Sami had lost his shops during the ISIS invasion. After his family returned, he embarked on rebuilding his business to support his family. Through our efforts, we fully rehabilitated his shop, providing essential amenities such as veggie racks, fridges, heating/cooling units, electrical work, lighting and shading. We celebrate Amu Sami's hard work and determination as he now sustains his family thanks to our generous donors and our community's support.

New Generator for the Village of Hazarjot

We recently completed one of our biggest projects yet! Hazarjot, the village of 180 residents- was struggling with frequent power outages due to their 16-year-old generator constantly breaking down. This was causing a great burden on the families, who had to spend a lot of money on repairs and sometimes go without electricity for days. Thanks to our donors, we were able to deliver a brand new 110-kVA generator to the village, ensuring that all families now have access to reliable electricity.

Rehabilitation of 7 Schools in Alqosh and 1 in Bozan

We have completed rehabilitating and equipping 7 schools in Alqosh and 1 school in Bozan, thanks to our partner L'Œuvre d'Orient. The schools are very old and have been in need support, which is rarely provided by the government. We installed secondary ceilings, new windows, doors, heating/cooling units, fans and curtains. We also delivered much needed equipment such as computers, printers, whiteboards, screens, chairs, surveillance cameras and more.

New Deacon and Choir Clothes for the Church in Tel Keppe

Just in time for Easter, we delivered new deacon and choir clothes to the local churches in Tel Keppe. Our team worked tirelessly with skilled tailors from Karemlesh to produce these garments of exceptional quality, which serve to replace the ones that were destroyed during the tragic ISIS invasion.

Our league is all about bringing people together, getting active and connecting the diaspora community with the people back home. By organizing the league, we've also provided freelance work for bus drivers, restaurants, referees, photographers, uniform makers and equipment suppliers. We raised around $35,000 this year, and you can find every receipt on the Shlama Foundation's website. A huge shoutout to our amazing donors for making all of this possible!
