The Adventure Continues …

As I sit here in the warmth of my studio in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, I can’t help feel that my snowbird friends are missing the most beautiful time of the year. We have had the snowiest January in several years, and as I write these words, it’s minus-17 degrees. The sun has only shown itself a handful of days all month, and yet the beauty that comes with a fresh snow or frosty morning makes it all worthwhile. To my way of thinking, the subtle colors of Mother Nature’s palate that appear when the sun peaks through the clouds or the sunset reflections on the snow are well worth the inconvenience that winter brings.  From an artist’s point of view, snow is never just white nor that cold—while insulating the earth and protecting the little critters living beneath it.

"Ice Houses on Lake Mille Lacs"

Ice fishing is almost over as we think ahead to Spring. This piece is sold and enjoying a new home.

February brings hope—the promise of spring, new life and life experiences. The days are getting longer, and the critters under the snow are restless for the advent of new generations.  With Valentine’s Day, February also showcases love—a time to appreciate loved ones in our life.

Part of my upcoming series on The Blues

This month continues to be busy for me, finishing some entries for upcoming group shows; creating new works for a possible one-man show, My Love of the Blues, my favorite music genre; and restoring numerous pieces of art from Old Masters to contemporary artists.  One restoration piece in particular, a 16th-century Italian scene, currently offers me a lot of challenge due to its previous repairs and touch-ups from other restorers. When I’m finished, you can view a series of photos depicting its restoration process on my Facebook account @RogerHNielsen.
