February Happenings in LocoLand

Loco Website

Welcome to the 6th edition of the Loco Newsletter!

Lil Loco nugs to keep you informed and entertained.

We were too excited to wait until tomorrow to send this so, here's February's edition in January! Keep scrolling to see what direction Loco is headed in 2023, redefine runner jargon we love to make fun of and find out where you can go to connect with other Loco runners!

A Runner's Dictionary of Misleading Terms

Sometimes runners are in so deep, they forget that non-runners have no clue what they’re talking about. Fear not, Loco to the rescue! The following is a list of runner jargon and their definitions, as explained to Loco, by runners like you (so they must be correct). Share this list with friends and family to help them better understand you and your non-stop babbling nonsense…um - we mean the next time you are sharing an exciting story or stat with them. Encourage them to study up so next time you and your crew are talking trails, they can keep up!

Bonk: When you run into a low hanging branch and knock yourself out, only to wake up with sharpie all over your face. (Linda L.)

Fartlek: When a fart leaks out at the aid station and everyone can smell it. (Sara E.)

Splits: What your toenails do ¾ of the way through your race. (Sara E.)

Drop Bag: An advanced piece of technology that allows you to teleport your snacks, drinks and spare gear from one location to another with a simple waive of your hand. It’s like magic for runners. Don’t be surprised if your extra socks end up in the next county.

Aid Station: A place where unicorns gather to offer free massages, sing you lullabies, and provide unlimited rainbows and sunshine. The only catch is that you have to actually get there.

Negative Splits: When your running tights rip in the wrong place. (Linda L.)

Hitting the Wall: When you run so fast you literally break through the fabric of time and space and end up in a parallel universe where everything is made of candy and shot bloks. Bonus if you can convince the unicorns from the aid stations to come with you.

Singlet: What’s left after encountering a “cougar”. (Alex S.)

Vo2Max: Amount one can vomit after chugging beer during the Loco Beer Mile. (Cody H.)

Snot Rocket: Decoy flares to distract a competitor. (Alex S.)

A huge thank you to all the Locos who contributed to these awe-inspiring definitions. You've helped trail runners and their loved ones everywhere!

*Curious about what some of these actually mean? Feel free to check out the real definitions here!

The Loco Direction

Loco runners, get your game face on. The 2023 Loco Race Series is shaking things up!

Listen up, all you wild and crazy Loco runners, it's time to dust off your sense of adventure and sharpen your senses, because the Loco Crew is turning the Loco Race Series on its head this season. We're talking a new direction, new attitude-ish, and a whole lot of excitement. So buckle up and hold on tight, because the Loco Race Series is about to get (more) wild.

First off, we're putting the "challenge" back into the Loco Challenge (the 100k & 100 mile races) with a killer course that includes a creek crossing, breathtaking views, and plenty of opportunities for tree-scrambling in the remote wilderness. So if you're up for a true adventure, check out the new course on the Loco Challenge page of our website.

Don't worry, the 5KBEER5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and 50k races all saw some kickass updates in 2020 and they're still as gnarly as ever.

Next, our monthly newsletter is going from twice a month to once a month, hitting your inbox the first week of each month. Because who has time for more than one newsletter that is primarily packed with nonsense?

And let's talk about the website updates! So many cool changes happening and we're still working on it, so go explore, click on all the links and let us know if you have any suggestions (keep in mind it's still a work in progress).

But wait, there's more! Two new and exciting things to look out for in the near future are the Loco Blog (we're going to need a much cooler name) and the Loco Merch store. These are a labor of love and we can't wait to share them with all of you.

And finally, our mantra for the 2023 Loco season is "Connect, Kick Ass & Keep it Simple". One way we are making the "connecting" happen is to go out on more group Loco runs in between events and during the off season. We'd love for you to join us!

We invite all of you to join us and share this mantra, however it resonates with you. Share it with us on social, if you're so inclined (or tell us in person when we see you this season) and we will do the same! Keep an eye on our social channels to see how we're making this happen in LocoLand (and for info and dates on group runs).

So, there you have it folks, the 2023 Loco Season is here and we're ready to take it on with a new direction, a new attitude, and a whole lot of adventure. See you on the trails, running!

Next Loco Newsletter will be hitting inboxes March 1st, where we will likely crack us all up (or at least ourselves), promote the upcoming Little Loco (because it gets more & more awesome every year) and fill your head full of facts and nonsense you never knew you needed to know!
