Gino Severin "Boundless"Opening Night Tuesday, 16th Aug 6-8pmExhibition runs until Aug 30 This week it's time to reset and prepare for the next run of exhibitions. Next is a return of resident artist Gino Severin with his latest series, 'Boundless' to grace the walls of Glimmer Gallery. You may remember Severin's last exhibition, 'the burn' which was a beautiful series focused on the 2020 bushfires. Severin has been working on a new series of landscapes which are a reflection on the premise that time never ends and everything is temporary. His colour palette varies significantly across the series, from his signature piece above, also titled 'Boundless', through to black and white and some more neutral colours. It's been wonderful seeing the progress of these pieces as Gino has been working in the upstairs studio at Glimmer to create many of the works in this exhibition. I hope to see you at the opening night next Tuesday, 16th August. Doors open at 6pm, with the exhibition running until 30th August.
The Virtual Gallery is already available on the website along with the event details so click through to check it out and to RSVP for Tuesday. Most exhibitions at Glimmer Gallery run for only about 2 weeks which seems to go so quickly, so don't put off coming in or you might miss out. |

Jacquelyn Stephens "Bio Luminous"Opening Night Thursday, 1st Sep 6–8:30pmExhibition runs from Aug 31 to Sep 17 Jacquelyn Stephens is new to Glimmer Gallery. When I recently put out a call for artists who are exhibition-ready after a reschedule, Jacquelyn contacted me the next day. I was thrilled to hear from Jacquelyn as I was already following her on Instagram, however we had never crossed paths before. It was wonderful to meet another artist in the area. I am always so happy to present local artists in Glimmer Gallery as the goal is to build a local following of artists and art-lovers. Jacquelyn has been exhibiting her artwork since 2000 and her work has appeared on shows such as 'The Block' and 'Healthy Homes' "Bio Luminous" is a unique series of paintings merging Art and Science, Microscopic worlds and sea-life. They explore a sublime of the small and celebrate the life forces and light energies inherent in all things microscopic, sub-atomic and aquatic. Jacquelyn also references the blurred light or ‘bokeh’ of photography, dark-light of microscopic imagery, and all the image making documentary world of seeing life’s glow. Sea-life, nudibranchs, algae, bioluminescent organisms and miniscule cell growth, all these universes inspire and influence the pictorial spaces and inform her paintings. I hope you can join Jacquelyn at her Opening Night, and if not, pop the exhibition into your calendar and come in during normal gallery hours. Her works have been uploaded to the Virtual Gallery already in case you would like to pre-purchase any pieces. |

Over the last few years, I have really enjoyed photographing the older generation; by that I mean (at 50) my parents generation and beyond. My first project of this type was going into a home in Oakleigh to meet and photograph Antigone and Chris, a Cypriot-born couple who were 92 and 96 years old respectively. It was a joy to learn about their history, coming to Australia and the role they played in the community of welcoming newer immigrants to the country. Our first meeting was about 3 hours and not a single photograph was taken. I returned, and we captured their wedding wreaths, wedding presents and Antigone baking biscuits and making greek coffee on the stovetop. Not long afterwards, I lost my father unexpectedly at 75 years of age. Just over 2 years later, I lost my mother to terminal cancer just after her 75th birthday. These losses have changed my perspective. What started as a single project has become a passion for me. My desire to document the lives of older Australians has grown, as there are always unasked questions of your own family once they have passed. If you, or have a family member, or someone in your life have an interesting life story and some artefacts from a life lived, I would love to include it in my project. We all amass so many diverse experiences in our lives, and those experiences have value. Call or message me on 0414 575 072 if you are interested in being part of this project. |
