Facilitated by Sr. Kathryn Ann Kobelinski, SSND, a commissioned presenter of the prayer. There is no fee, but we are grateful for a donation (see our donation page).

Silent Saturday

Breathing Under Water by Richard Rohr

Reviewed by Judy Raebel-McKinley

Being in a 12-step program, for me this book ties together the 12-steps and scripture brilliantly. Each chapter begins with a step and scripture verses that speak to that step. The chapter then goes on to give a deeper understanding of what the scripture verses are referring to. I especially like this because my 12-step program is spiritually based and having a biblical faith this makes sense to me and helps me live with integrity and humility. It’s not just about recovery from my character defects but serving and loving others, many still suffering from some form of addiction.

Instead of feeling like I am drowning, this book shows me that I have a life line—based on living the 12 steps, spiritual principals integrated with scripture. I am not overwhelmed by circumstances but have a better perspective of their reality which helps me cope. My so called “mountains” become mole hills. Maybe this is what Jesus meant when he said if we have faith we can say to a mountain move and it will do so.

This book is about hope and no matter what our addiction, Richard clearly writes about it in this book.

Welcome Home and Congratulations

Packing and unpacking were not practices that I had anticipated as additions to my Rule of Life when I set out on the new fronter of retirement! A disciplined practice of principals established since first writing my rule has provided stability and the willingness to follow the circuitous route of God’s call.

An adventurous four-year journey that included the fulfillment of a lifelong desire...
