We Love Warner

Updates (10/25/2019)

Hello, !

As a reminder to all, the We Love Warner group is an independent entity. The content of this email and our website strictly reflect the views and opinions of a group of Warner Nature Center volunteers wishing to continue the legacy of Warner Nature Center and do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of the staff of Warner Nature Center nor the staff of the Science Museum of Minnesota.

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENING:

SENDING TEACHER SURVEY RESULTS

For those who missed it last time, we are sending the results of the Teacher Survey to interested parties. They have also been posted on our website for everyone to view. The report was assembled by various members of the We Love Warner group. Our mission with constructing this survey and report was to garner evidence that the Warner Nature Center fulfills its purpose as an educational place that builds lasting relationships between people and the natural world.

RECOGNIZING SCIENCE RESEARCH PROJECTS

Lee and Rose Warner Nature Center, a unique and pristine nature area, has long been a key location for science research. Our citizen scientists share their projects with the naturalists, students, and national databases. Knowledge gained is incorporated in courses and shared with students in trail guiding sessions. We have assembled information about these various projects so everyone can see the amazing work that has been done on the property to advance science. The list is incomplete but click the link below to view our current list.

UPDATE ON PETITION

Thank you to everyone who has shown their support by signing the Show Your Support for Warner Nature Center's Legacy petition. The support shown for one nature center to continue building relationships between people and the natural world has been truly amazing.

We are very close to 1,500 signatures!

We Love Warner plans to hold the petition open until the end of the year. The petition will close on December 31st, 2019, and the signatures will then be collected to be shared with the board of the Manitou Fund. We believe this is ample time for the people to show their support for our cause.

We currently still do not know the plans that the Manitou Fund has made for the property, but the secrecy behind the situation is worrisome. The signatures on the petition strengthen our resolve to find answers.

Also, a BIG shout out to everyone who has already donated to our petition. We were not expecting this amount of generosity. The donations have gone to promoting the petition on Change.org. Moving forward, we would like to be clear about NOT DONATING on the Change.org website. We are grateful for those who have, but we are ONLY collecting signatures at the moment.

HIKE & SOCIAL GET-TOGETHER

Lastly, we have scheduled our first of many Hike & Social Get-Togethers for WNC Volunteers and Staff who want to hike and chat with each other. The event is on Wednesday, December 4th, 2019 starting at 9 AM at William O’Brien State Park’s visitor center. The idea is to gather at the visitor center first and then hike some of the trails at the park. All are invited!
