XXL End of Summer Edition Vol.IX June/July/August 2018 |
As the summer flew by, I decided to do some cleaning up on my computer. As I began to organize files,I came across my screensaver folder. Looking at the pictures (some dating back to 2013), each one was a reminder of a dog or puppy that has passed through the rescue. In a previous newsletter, I stated I have over 1,000 photos on my computer screensaver. Photos of people, fosters, transporters, shelters. It is a never ending story of gut-wrenching beginnings and happy endings. This is a labor of love, not for the meek of heart, and it takes a big-hearted person to do this. |

This is what rescue is about. Not about egos, who is bigger, who is best. Who does it the “right way”. If we have anything to brag about, it is that the grace of GOD has placed a group of people together and we have enjoyed helping animals and it turned out to be very good. No one person can do this by themselves. It is a work of love and it takes a lot of people.
You are those people!
This is what we are asking: If you are interested in doing just a small part, THINK about what you can do. Brainstorm, write it down and share with us. If you can only give one hour in 52 weeks, we want that! Everyone can do something and nothing is too small or not enough. Donating is a big part and we certainly thank our monthly donors who make a lot of things possible that are needed every day. Money for food, transportation, vetting, boarding, sudden illness and expensive heartworm treatments all get done and the money is always there for us. We appreciate you! |

Some people choose to foster, and we could certainly use more fosters. Without a foster home open, we can not save a dog in need. If you haven't already, there is a place on the web site to apply to foster. We have a Facebook foster group and you have a chance to choose the dog or puppy you would foster. Sometimes it is only for a couple of weeks. Some need a chance to get to another area and need a temp foster. Anyone can do that!
Perhaps you like to drive and would like to help us transport. We have a section on the website where you can provide your info if you would like to help transport. Just this past month, we needed help on 4 different transports and have 2 possibly 3 more coming up. It is very laborious and time consuming to sit down and make up these run sheets, but to try and call everyone is also hard. You may want to help organize a run or just call people up and request their help. You could also help set up a database of drivers and help us get that saved for future use. |
We also need help with some housekeeping/office work like checking applications, writing letters to people who have not been able to get the pup for which they applied(10 people can all applied but there is only one dog!). We could use some help with grant writing and also just in general helping to encourage other people to go on the web site, shop for a tee shirt, check on the new dogs needing homes, etc. Share their Petfinder bios on Facebook, twitter and Instagram and just in general get the word out that they need new homes! Suggest your friends like us on Facebook and invite them to the website to build up our base. That is how successful rescues work. |
We appreciate Bob Neeley and his family, he keeps his running blog up to date with information about the dogs in need and shares and helps us get the word out. |
That is one thing that does help the animals, the more exposure they receive, the more likely they are to find just the right home. You can be a part of that as well. |

Shopping. Everyone loves to shop! We have information on the website about how to shop using Amazon Smile. You shop like normal and the dogs get some money! How about that deal! We would also love for you, if you are in an area that has Kroger, to go to Community Rewards online and sign up your Kroger card under Blackjack Animal Rescue. So far, the 14 people who have signed up earn us enough to spay/neuter one dog each quarter. I can see that going way up there, so a good portion of the dogs we alter have the money to get that done! |

Right now we are doing a cover contest on Facebook for our 2019 calendar. Yes, it is calendar time and as you have probably heard in years past, the calendar is what supports the animals in the months when fewer people are adopting, especially during the holidays and winter months. We need that boost to make it through that rough time! |
Please share the information and purchase a calendar. I am sure they will be beautiful as always! |

I cannot say enough about the people who make Blackjack Animal Rescue successful. Day and night, they are on the ball, getting the job done. Each and every one is special to me. We do a great service for homeless animals and even though the heart is very big, sometimes there is discouragement or frustration. We need to build each other up. If I am on a train and riding in the engine up front, and you are in the caboose and having problems, I am going to reach back and help you. That is how we keep going. One day at a time. One dog at a time.
Until He comes! Sharon Bryant 24/7 dog lover & Director of Blackjack Animal Rescue |
