We recently sat down with Darah Eckert to learn a little bit more about our sister. Here's what we found out:
Darah pledged Beta Alpha in the fall of 1989. In her words, she just felt so at home at the AXiD house on Rio Grande--even from those first moments of recruitment. Her enthusiasm for the house and the sisterhood was contagious. She served as what was then known as Assistant Pledge Trainer. Sharing with New Members the sisterhood's rich history and Symphony, ensuring their academic success and helping them really get to know the sisters of the early 90s.
Darah stays committed to service to the sorority because she loves giving back to an organization that means the world to her. And, as with every one of her philanthropic or service roles, she enjoys looking out for others and putting kindness out into the world. As an alumnae, Darah has many years of board service--too many to count, and a turn at both Treasurer and President of our Houston Association.
Darah is an attorney in Houston. And loves her profession because she feels as though trial lawyers are some of the smartest and big-hearted folks that she knows. Recognizing that her profession sometimes gets a bad rap, she is mindful that when the chips are down, there is no better advocate/protector/defender than a great trial lawyer. Trial lawyers are passionate and fierce.
In an effort to get to know her even better, here's how Darah answered some of our rapid-fire questions:
Ed: How do you define success?
Darah: Liking the person that I see looking back at me in the mirror when I wash my face in the morning.
Ed: Who inspires you?
Darah: The high school graduating class of 2020. COVID ripped up these kids' senior year. They missed prom and graduation. Many are starting their college careers in the most unusual fashion. But, they got through all of this with smiles on their faces and with great attitudes.
Ed: If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose?
Darah: Mark Cuban! I love Shark Tank!
Ed: What’s one thing you learned in the last month?
Darah: How to use an LED Selfie Ring for virtual meetings/hearings/depositions. It really does make you look better! (Ed Note: Please teach me. No matter where I place it, it reflects off my glasses and I look like I'm fluorescent!)
Ed: What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
Darah: Thanks to father's job with Exxon, by the time I was 5 years old, I had lived in England twice (London suburbs), Tokyo, Japan and Aruba.
Ed: What’s the last book you read?
Darah: I am still reading it - Howard Stern Comes Again. He's a champion of the First Amendment and the best interviewer on the planet.
Ed: What’s the first concert you ever attended?
Darah: OMG! I really cannot remember because it was so long ago. I'm sure it would have been going to see someone at AstroWorld (RIP). However, my favorite concert was Paul McCartney in 2012. I saw him at Minute Maid Park and it was amazing. A true legend!
