Announcements

Congratulations to all the PhD students who recently defended!

Over the past couple months, many BMEGG students have successfully defended their theses, including: Michael Fong, Fan Wu, Jennifer Price, Allison Hsia, Armaun Emami, Anita Rajamani, and Divya Kernik. We're very excited for all of the recent graduates as they transition to new positions in industry and academia!

Congratulations to Jackie Woods for receiving the 2019 BMEGG Outstanding Graduate Student Award!

Jackie is a student in Dr. Kent Leach's lab who is working to direct mesenchymal stem/stromal cell (MSC) behavior by loading osteo-inductive substrates and biomolecules within MSC spheroids to guide their bone-forming potential. She has 8 publications and an impressive track record of mentorship, participation in BESA, and scientific communication outreach.

Congratulations also to Kevin Campbell, Divya Kernik, and Dovin Kiernan, the other nominees for this year's award, who have also made outstanding contributions to research, teaching, mentoring, and community outreach.

Send in nominations for the keynote speaker at the 2020 BMEGG Research Symposium

Anyone is welcome and encouraged to send in a nomination for the keynote speaker at this year's symposium (Friday, May 29, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the UC Davis Conference Center). We're looking for someone with outstanding research, and we are placing a special emphasis on their dedication to mentorship, outreach, and career development. If anyone comes to mind, please fill out this Google form by the end of next week (Friday, Oct. 11)!

      Previous Events

      BMEGG Orientation

It's been another great start to the school year. The new BMEGG students were able to hear from a wide variety of professors during orientation, and also learn about BESA and life as a BMEGG student in general. Special thanks to Christal Wintersmith and Dr. David Hawkins for the effort that went into this.

      BESA Ice Cream Social

Among other orientation week social activities, we had a very well attended ice cream social. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, and be on the lookout for coffee hours with faculty coming up in the near future!
