We are thrilled to announce that Open Door has been awarded a generous grant from the Floyd Memorial Foundation in support of our "Kids in the Kitchen" program! This funding will empower us to bring essential nutritional education and hands-on cooking experiences to children in Floyd County elementary schools. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Floyd Memorial Foundation for their commitment to community health and well-being. This grant is a testament to the impact we can achieve together. Stay tuned for this spring when we begin the program!

We are thrilled to introduce "Joy Ride", a collaboration between The Bicycle Station and Open Door. The goal of Joy Ride is to raise funds for Specialized Rockhopper bicycles to be donated to our shelter for our youth to use during the coming warm months. We love any opportunity to get our kids active and more involved within our community in a positive and healthy way. This is the perfect opportunity for staff to have one on one time with our kids on bikes at places like the Ohio River Greenway or Sam Peden Community Park. Consider donating today!

$140,000 Grant Update for January

In the spirit of progress and safety, we're thrilled to share that last December, we began the exciting process of custom ordering our two brand-new 2024 Ford 15 Passenger Vans. Anticipated to arrive by this summer, these vans will be outfitted to meet our specific needs. What makes this even more special is that each van will boast state-of-the-art safety features, reinforcing our commitment to ensuring the utmost safety and well-being for our kids during their journeys.

This project wouldn't be possible without the Impact 100 Southern Indiana grant from the Women's Foundation of Southern Indiana.

Get Credit on your Taxes

Indiana's Housing & Community Development Authority's (IHCDA) Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) is a program of the State of Indiana that provides $2.5 million tax credits annually to non-profit organizations like us, for distribution as a fundraising tool. The program was created by Indiana Code 6-3.1-9. NAP credits are worth 50% of the value of a donation/contribution made to us by you. This means that a $200 donation to us nets a $100 tax credit for you. If you would like to know more or donate and receive a tax credit, click the learn more button below.

Service Spotlight

Think First & Stay Safe ® is a presentation offered to students K-5 in area elementary schools. This presentation teaches children response skills and knowledge through non-threatening and age-appropriate lessons that will help them to avoid potentially abusive situations. This interactive presentation is both fun and educational. The goal is for children to learn the following:

  • To distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate touch.

  • Three basic safety skills: say NO to an inappropriate touch; run away to a safe place; and tell a trusted adult.

  • If sexual abuse was to happen or has happened to them, it is not their fault.

  • To name private body parts.
