Summer 2022 Newsletter

"Summertime, and the living is..." surprisingly complex?

Another Maine summer is coming to a close faster than most of us can believe. Whatever this summer held for you, we hope that you found moments of meaning, joy, warmth, and growth.

One of the highlights of my summer was increasing in-person services after a long hiatus in certain settings. While we still offer remote/video sessions, the opportunity to visit local preschool classrooms and to connect with even more families has been a joy.

We are currently working on Fall schedules, and will continue to offer a variety of service settings in order to make music therapy services accessible, affordable, and convenient. Several community programs are in the works for later this Fall, so stay tuned and follow us on Facebook for updates. Also, don't miss new funding support ideas below.

If you hope to resume or begin services this Fall, please contact us asap, as we anticipate having full schedules, particularly for after-school hours.

Thank you to Maine Senior Magazine for recognizing the power of music as we age, and for interviewing Carla about music therapy and brain health for the August 2022 issue.

We discuss:

  • How can music help with cognitive function?

  • Can it help someone showing signs of dementia/Alzheimer's?

  • What can someone expect during a session with a music therapist?

  • What are your recommendations for preventative care?

Funding Opportunities

Are you looking for ways to fund music therapy services for your clients or organization? Several exciting grant opportunities are available this Fall, and we have been very successful in partnering with non-profits to apply for and implement grant-funded programs.

More individual funding support is becoming available through MaineCare waiver programs, VA discretionary funds, the Bangor Y, and individual/family grants. Most are geared towards adults with disabilities or health conditions. If you know someone who might qualify, we are happy to help.

Music Lessons on MDI

Finding a music teacher in the Mount Desert Island region can be challenging. We have put together a Google Doc to help teachers and students find each other. Please feel free to share this with friends, family, and musicians who may find it useful!
