Madams Letter

 Ladies,

Finally, we have a true Winter in SW Florida!  It’s been years since we’ve had consecutive weeks of nice cool refreshing weather and clear blue skies.  The occasional rainy days have seemed like a treat too, keeping our upcoming dry fire danger months at bay.

However; my diet has switched from iced tea and salads to starting my days with hot chocolate and oatmeal, and ending with homemade soup and biscuits hot out of the oven.  Better get out and enjoy a brisk daily walk to keep my waist line in check.

I hope that you’ve recruited family, friends and neighbors to volunteer at ArtFest next weekend!  It’s crunch time and lots of volunteers are needed to boost our tips all benefiting our 2022 Scholarship Program.  It’s a great opportunity make new friends, too.

January 31st is the last day to purchase a Community Bag at Winn-Dixie on Stringfellow to benefit the Hookers.  They have several new designs, too.  Really cute!

Exciting news!  On behalf of the entire Matlacha Hookers Board and Membership welcome our 2022 Secretary Carolyn Ryzanych.  She volunteered to fill this position, was duly approved by the 2022 Board and she’s been sworn in.  You can reach her at matlachahookers@matlachahookers.org.

I’m still collecting aluminum pull tabs.  We donate them to the American Legion; they take them to the metal scraper on Doug Taylor Circle then send all of the proceeds directly to the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Myers.

I’m also still accepting gently used bras.  We almost have a full box to forward to the ‘Free The Girls’ 501(c) non-profit organization.  They provide job opportunities for survivors of sex trafficking in developing countries.

PIE DERBY COMMITTEE – We have the FINAL numbers from the Derby and we’re ready to make a decision regarding our donation to benefit teachers, students and Pine Island Elementary itself.  Please plan on attending the Wrap Up Meeting on Thursday, February 3rd at Little Lilly’s Deli at 6:00pm.  I’ve asked Principal Tom for a wish list in addition to the support for the teachers.

Don’t miss the February General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, February 15th at the Elks.  We’ll be presenting a check to F.I.S.H from Christmas Caroling and checks to Pine Island Elementary from the Derby.

A couple of friendly reminders; bring two items for the Food Pantry, the Wine Tasting Event is still accepting donations of wine and feel free to bring items for the Bag ‘n Tag.

The next Bag ‘n Tag sort date will be shared in the next Herald and at our February Meeting.  You can always drop off donations to Trader’s Hitching Post in Matlacha or take items directly to the Maxwell House at 7830 Lobean Lane in Bokeelia.

Stay warm, stay well and volunteer!!  Madam DJ
