Congratulations!

Bryn Du's inaugural Artist in Residence, Jennifer Hambrick, has big news to share! She just released a new book of poetry entitled, Joyride! Since her time at Bryn Du, Ms. Hambrick has won the 2020 Stevens Poetry Manuscript Competition of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize (again!), is a 2020 Haiku Society of America summer contest winner and won the Sheila-Na-Gig Press Fall 2020 Poetry Competition. Her poetry has also been published and highlighted nationally many times over. We are so proud to have hosted Ms. Hambrick as our first Artist in Residence in 2019 (information on upcoming residencies is coming soon!)! Thank you, GCA!

Ealier this spring, Granville Christian Academy set out to do acts of service throughout the county. 9 GCA sudents and 2 parents visited Bryn Du where they washed windows, weeded, picked up sticks, and moved furniture for us. GCA's annual volunteer day, iReach, focuses on serving and loving their community outside of the classroom. Thank you, GCA!

Continuous Maintenance

Through Bryn Du's mission of historical preservation, big or small, we're constantly fixing, updating, and maintaining! Last month we tackled some needed concrete work on the property. The front entrance steps were redone, and a new sidewalk was added to the Artist in Residence cottage. They both look great and are ready for visitors!

A Summer Project

It's finally time! Thanks to your donations, the century-old Bryn Du Barn is getting brand new windows! The windows arrived on site last month and are being placed one at a time. Because there are 34 windows, this project will likely take the majority of the summer. Big thanks to all of you who continue to support Bryn Du's historic preservation efforts as well as to the Granville Community Foundation for their generous grant.

Summer Camp Reminder

The Bryn Du Art Center is pleased to offer a number of different summer camps for kids led by three different children's instructors. Each camp has a different mask-requirement so check out the details before deciding which are the right ones for your family. We look forward to getting the kids back into the studio for some much needed art-related fun! Registration is open now and space is limited.

Quincy's History Corner

Hi everyone! As I walked into the Mansion the other day, I noticed a cool plaque on the wall and wondered why I hadn't seen it before (ignoring the fact that it is defintely not at eye-level for me!). Apparently, in 1982, the Bryn Du property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and that sign is a super important REALLY big deal! Bryn Du became part of the registry as the result of the efforts of then owners, the Wright family, and local historians. Registered as "McCune's Villa," the Bryn Du property was awarded this distinction due to the history of the site, the history of the characters involved (oh man, there were a lot!), and the case of  of reconstruction, when architect Frank Packard did an extensive renovation transporting the original italinate villa mansion into a georgian federal masterpiece in the early 1900s. I also learned that the National Registry designation actually applies to the entire Bryn Du campus, not just the Mansion. So, I guess that means that everywhere I wander is pretty special! I love feeling like I'm a part of history every day. And next time Dad asks me to go with him to check out the new barn windows or something, I think I'll actually go take a look. Unless, it's time for my nap in the sun, of course.

Love, Quincy

There's a First Time for Everything

One busy Saturday last month, a lovely graduation celebration was about to begin when two adorable but rascally creatures were noticed right outside the Mansion's front door. Despite humorous attempts to encourage the baby raccoons to move along, staff was unsuccessful. Luckily, the Granville Police Department responded quickly to our call for help and, before we knew it, Officer Kaffenbarger had calmly relocated the little ones to a safe location nearby. A big thank you goes out to GPD for saving the day!

Arbor Day Donation

In honor of Arbor Day 2021, the Bryn Du Mansion was provided with an unexpected tree donation from local business, John Klauder Landscape and Design. This beautiful maple tree has been lovingly planted just outside the entrance to the Bryn Du Mansion property. Take a peek before you go through the gates and arch upon your next visit! We can't wait for this beauty to flourish and grow here at the Mansion. Thank you, John Klauder Landscape and Design!
