Scenes from the Ukrainian Egg Design & Dyeing Workshop
Students of all ages enjoyed this past weekend's workshop in pysanky; the traditional craft of egg dyeing popular in Ukraine and Poland. Instructor Katya D'Angelo taught students how to use a kistka, a special tool to draw patterns on eggs with wax. The wax acts as a resist and then eggs are dyed. This process is then repeated with other color dyes resulting in multicolored patterns.
