Authorly Happenings 2019 was a wild year! Earlier this year I got my lovely agent, Alexandra Levick of Writers House with my first book, The Lesbiana's Guide To Catholic School. I'm so excited about where we've been able to take this book and I can't wait for what the future holds! I recently did an interview with Catherine Bakewell(@catbakewell on Twitter) about my querying process, self-care, and #QPOCChat! Read it here. Just about a month ago, @caiteedid on Twitter brought my babies to life with this amazing artwork! Meet Yamilet, her brother Cesar, and Bo! |

What I'm reading: Dear Haiti, Love Alaine by Maika and Maritza Moulite I try to convince my mom to read with me as much as I can, and out of all the books I'd recently bought, this is the one she chose. Since we're reading it together, I can't binge it the way I would like to, but we are both loving it so far! Alaine is hilarious, and even though it touches on some deep topics, Alaine's voice holds my hand through it and keeps me feeling safe and able to laugh. I'm less than halfway through the book, so I can't say too much else other than both my mom and I are already in love! I'm hoping to finish this one soon. |

My Current Obsession: The Moon Within by Aida Salazar God, this book killed me, then brought me back to life. It follows 11-year-old Celi Rivera as she goes through puberty and her first crush. I am in love with the way culture plays such a deep role in this book, especially when it comes to Celi's best friend, Marco and his actively de-conolized relationship with gender. A gender-queer kid in a middle grade book about periods! Just... how could I not love this? |

#QPOCChat For the uninitiated, #QPOCChat is a monthly chat on Twitter that I started a few months ago. It's a space where queer writers of color can come together for an hour to talk about our projects, identities, writing processes, and more! The next chat will be held Thursday, January 16 at 8pm ET. Have a suggestion for a #QPOCChat question? Submit it here! |
