The Scoop

The latest from The Replenishery

Hey Hey

Welcome to the second edition of 'The Scoop' from The Replenishery.

The big news from this month is that it is Oli's birthday on Sunday (and it is a significant number), to join the celebrations we had a surprise visit from her Mum, Jitka yesterday, look at the joy and love below. I'm sure she will be at the shop in the next few days and you can have a chat with her and practice your Czech :)

We're celebrating on Sunday in true Oli wild style - by going Paddle boarding in Delamere - We're avoiding looking at the weather forecast beforehand.

In the news …

You couldn't watch or read the news without seeing all about the Climate Strike on 20th September, with some of our younger customers attending the event in Manchester. We are of course now in the midst of Greta-mania, with Miss Thunberg delivering a damning speech aimed at world leaders at the UN Climate Action Summit on Monday.

In other news, we loved reading about a new concept for Plastic-free, edible flight meal trays designed to reduce airline waste. Design studio PriestmanGoode, who developed the trays, said they are currently in discussions with airlines and rail companies, and the “dream” would be to turn their concept into reality across the industry.

The trays are part of a new exhibition at the London Design Museum, titled Get Onboard: Reuse. Reuse, Rethink which runs until February 2020.

Focus on … Wraps

Bee Sweet and Bumble is a family business based in the heart of Cheshire. Their venture was born out of a determination to make a difference, and to encourage others to say “No” to single-use plastic. The beeswax and vegan wax food wraps and produce bags offer a natural, reusable and biodegradable alternative to cling film and plastic bags.

The beeswax wraps and beeswax produce bags are made from 100% cotton fabric, local, natural, Cheshire beeswax, natural tree resin and organic jojoba oil. The fabric is washed and cut before being coated in their special mixture, hung to air dry then folded and packaged. The vegan wax wraps and produce bags are made from 100% cotton fabric, non-GMO soy wax, organic candelilla wax, organic jojoba oil and pine resin.

Lot's of people ask how to use the wraps, they have a soft, pliable feel that is reusable over and over again. the wax blend is also a natural antibacterial helping to keep your food fresher for longer. Simply place your wrap over a bowl or plate and the warmth of your hands softens your wrap to create a seal. You can use the same principle for wrapping cheese, bread, sandwiches, snacks, fruit & vegetables. Simply place the wrap around the item and hold in place with your hands. The heat from your hands activates the wax, and the wrap stays in place.

And taking care of them couldn't be simpler, hand wash your wrap in warm soapy water (not too hot or you will melt off the wax) or wipe clean with a damp cloth and let air dry. Once dry, fold you wrap and store in a basket or drawer. Your wraps can be reused over and over again. With proper care your wraps should last up to a year. Once they’re no longer sticky you can simply put them in the compost.

We have lots of wraps in stock, prices start at just £5 for a single wrap, up to £21 for a full starter pack.
