Greetings From Your President Welcome back! I hope you've all had a good summer in spite of the smoke and other unusual weather. In June, we had a very successful State Convention here in Wenatchee at the Convention Center. Your board met in August and voted to contribute $1,000 each to two valuable community organizations: the Alatheia Riding Center which provides therapy for almost 200 children and adults in our area who have special needs, and the Thrive Chelan Valley program which provides proper clothing, food and other basic needs for school children in the Chelan and Manson areas. |

Our September 10 meeting at the Red Lion will feature our legislative candidates to create voting awareness for the mid-term elections in early November. We hope that you all mark your calendars for the second Monday of each month for our noon meetings at the Red Lion. We are planning to develop a list of members who would be willing to provide rides to our meetings for those of you who do not drive. Please let a board member know if you would be willing to be on this list. Hope to see you on the 10th. Sincerly, Beverly Jagla, Unit 2 President |

Did you notice the extra dollars in your July retirement check? Thanks to the hard work your WSSRA Legislative Committee and the support of our District 12 Legislators, Plan 1 retirees received a 1.5% per month permanent increase in our retirement checks. Those of us on PEBB and Medicare will also receive an $18 per month raise in our medical subsidy beginning in January; bringing it to $168 per month. TERS and PERS plans 2 & 3 also received their inflation based COLA. It's not what we asked for or deserve; but it is progress. Our message to the Legislature is being heard. Be sure to thank our current District 12 Legislators for their support. We have already identified priorities for the 2019 session and have begun work on them:
- TRS 1 & PERS 1 Pension Recovery
- Restore Retiree Healthcare Benefits
- Expand and Equalizes the Full Retirement Age in Plans 2 & 3
- Protect Retirees in Transition to New Health Providers

Try these tips to LOWER YOUR PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS |
|
|
The costs of prescription drugs are rising. You can take an active role in managing your prescription drug costs by doing the following: - Use Prescription Price Check tool or call Washington State Rx Services at 1-888-361-16111 (TRS: 711) to find out if less expensive alternatives are available. There may be a generic alternative for a brand-name drug used to treat the same condition that may be an option for you.
- Call local pharmacies to compare prices for your drug, since they vary between pharmacy chains.
- Use the Washington Prescription Drug Discount Card for drugs not covered by your plan. Learn more
- Visit a Choice90 pharmacy if you are taking an ongoing prescription drug. You can save money by purchasing a 90 day supply of your medication. View the list of Choice90 pharmacies. You can also call Washington Rx Services at 1-888-261-1611 (TRS: 711)

Thanks to members who contributed to the PAC we were able to assist 17 Legislative candidates, supportive of our issues, in their campaign. Since we are bi-partisan we assist candidates of all parties who support our retirement priorities. We also endorsed Legislative Cadidate, Mike Steele, as he was instrumental in supporting our 2018 retirement gains. |
