Ghana losing its fish stock due to over-exploitation – Ghana Tuna Association

 

Richster Nii Armah Amarfio, the Secretary of Ghana Tuna Association (GTA), has said Ghana is over-exploiting its fish stock and needs a holistic approach to curb it.

Mr Amarfio, who is also a fisheries advocate, said the country had crossed the maximum sustainable yield, which indicates an over-exploitation of the fish stock.

“This basically means we are losing our fish stock, so we have to find ways of reversing this to make sure we are sustainable,” he said.

NIMASA inaugurates team to draft Nigeria’s maritime security strategy

 

The Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, has inaugurated the Expert Level Planning Team (ELPT) of the agency to draft the National Maritime Security Strategy (NMSS) to sustain the agency’s successes in the fight against piracy.

Coast Guard Investigating Laser Strikes During Buffalo Rescue Missions

Russian strike kills Ukrainian Shipping and Ag Executive

 

Oleksiy Vadaturskyi, 74, was the founder and CEO of Nibulon, a leading Ukrainian grain producer. Nibulon is the only vertically-integrated ag producer in Ukraine to own its own shipping fleet. The firm invested heavily in river shipping capacity and port infrastructure, and before the invasion it had plans in the works for a new deepwater port southwest of Kherson (now under Russian occupation).

Ukraine declares ports ready with UN preparing first grain shipments

 

A week after the signing of the agreement with the United Nations to resume gain shipments from three Ukrainian Black Sea Ports, Ukraine’s president and other senior officials visited the ports to emphasize they are open and ready to start shipments. First solid form hydrogen propulsion vessel ordered for Amsterdam

 

The construction contract has been awarded for a hydrogen demonstration vessel that will use a new solid form hydrogen for propulsion that researchers believe will pave the way for a safer and broader application of hydrogen to fuel vessels. Known as Neo Orbis, the demonstration vessel is expected to start trials in June 2023 as the next phase in the multi-year European H2Ships program.

IMO to help Belize address emissions

 

The IMO-Norway GreenVoyage2050 team is supporting the government of Belize to set up a National Action Plan (NAP) to address GHG emissions from shipping and draft legislation to enshrine MARPOL Annex VI into national regulation. As part of the capacity building support, the GreenVoyage2050 team will assist the country in identifying and addressing data gaps (such as emissions from ports and domestic shipping). This information will underpin the formation of national strategies to tackle these emissions.
