Hello Summer!☀️

Ready! Reset! Go!

Let’s admit we all have been feeling anxious about returning to our new normal. Whether going back to work, school, or even church there may be a feeling of fear. Eventhough we've been vaccinated, I ponder what the new normal will look like in our new world. It’s still safe to say we still need to mask up, keep ourselves six feet distance apart, and wash our hands for how many seconds? Well, sing “The Happy Birthday” song and you’ve got yourself 20 seconds of clean hands and don’t forget your hand sanitizer!

However, with all the precautions above, here are a few steps to ease the anxiety of returning back into “The New World.”

Remember our mental health is important, so when you are preparing to transition back into the new normal stay calm, breathe, reset and go!

Let's CELEBRATE! Never in Olympic History have an all Black women athlete been positioned to make an imprint in the Olympics. For the first time in U.S. history, Black women in sports are set to own the narrative at this year's Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Yes, let’s be proud of the Black Girl Magic gracing us with their presence! These Queens are limitless in their athletic abilities breaking barriers, the negative stereotypes, showing the world our Black is Beautiful, and there is nothing we can’t accomplish! Let’s Meet our Sheroes!

DoV’s Summertime Checklist?

Are you ready for the Summer?

What does the word “cheugy" mean?  (pronounced chew-gee)

Cardi B’s

“If it's Up then it’s Stuck”
Personally I will agree with Jimmy Fallon’s interpretation of the meaning. Check it out!

Friend Application

Friendships are now being “hooked up” on social media. Do you have the right qualities on your Friend Application?

DoV is all about looking and feeling pretty on a budget.
What we are talking about is...

This BGS Sunscreen will give your skin a radiant glow and protect your melanin in all types of weather.

Our budget screams yes for the price of $15.99 at Ulta and Target!

If you have sensitive and dry skin, the Marula Seed Oil made from the kernels of the Marula Tree of Eastern and Southern Africa, will hydrate and moisturize your skin with a healthy outward appearance. You know we are excited for our budget when we see the price for $6.99 at Trader Joe's.

When I workout at the track to walk or jog, it is very important that I have gym shoes to accommodate my legs and my feet.  As we all know, there are plenty of gym shoes from the most brand worthy companies to support our lower-body workouts.

I have found support in Adidas Ultra Boost Yes, as Run DMC lyrically rap bars about the comfortable fit of their adidas. Their bond with adidas was priceless as much as, how many pairs of sneakers they owned. I can totally relate how they feel about the love for their adidas. As I work out my lower body exercises, walk, or jog my adidas sneakers never give out on supporting my lower body muscles.

The benefits are worth the cost for an intense total body workout!

Here are a few bars from Run DMC’s

“My Adidas” Rap

“My Adidas and me close as can be,
We make a mean team, my Adidas and me,
We get around together, we down forever,
And we won't be mad when caught in bad weather,
My Adidas,
My Adidas,
Yo, wassup?”

DoV’s Mindfulness Question

I will be mindful to put my sunscreen on in the summer!

Let’s travel back in time in 1969, and capture the Summer of Soul Festival never told! A Must WATCH! Let’s continue celebrating our Black History!

Thank you Questlove for revamping this timeless musical treasure of our Black History our Black Pride.

The Lessons We Learn in Life
Thinking about Sha’Carri Richardson

As Sha’Carri Richardson, ran the women's 100-meter race at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon in just 10.86 seconds. The audience was amazed as we gasped our breath watching this 21 year old Olympic Star, secure her seat to the Tokyo Olympics 2021, to win the GOLD!

Then the devastating failed drug test, derailed Sha’Carri’s dream to win the Gold at the Tokyo 2021, Olympic Games.

The outcome of her suspension and the disqualification to compete in the Tokyo Olympics, stirred up many people’s opinion about her actions.

What I do know is that trauma is real and if it’s suppressed, the trauma will manifest itself somewhere and somehow.

Perhaps for Sha’Carri, due to the passing of her mother, her grief impaired her decision-making which led, to her suspension to compete in the Tokyo Olympics 2021.

As a culture, we should rally around our Sister Sha’Carri and show compassion in her time of need. Pointing the you know better finger is all said and done!

Although the decision has been made about the Tokyo dream, Sha’Carri has many supporters including a host of celebrities voicing their opinions, "She should be reconsidered for the road to Tokyo Olympics 2021 Games." However, the Olympic rules are not to be compromised by anyone in the competition.

Through it all, Sha’Carri has shown so much strength and the transparency about her suspension, we can learn from her misfortune:

  • A setback is a comeback!
  • Triumph over Trauma!
  • Watch the Company You Keep!
  • Everyone grieves differently 🙏
  • Don’t let your circumstances define who you ARE!
  • Let’s Go Sha’Carri for the 2024 Olympics! You Got This!
