This past week has been a heavy one, with many in the southeast US recovering from Hurricane Helen. In this week's '360' Newsletter we bring a bit of lightness to life and teaching with an article about the joy and efficacy of music for language learning. Feel free to sing along! |

Want to learn a language? Sing It! |
"Researchers at the University of Edinburgh studied the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They found that remembering words in a song was the best way to remember even one of the most difficult languages." Click the following link to read, listen, and share the article from the Voice of America Brain Remembers Language Better If You Sing It. Key takeaways: The people who learned new words by singing them showed a higher overall performance doing best in four out of five of the tests. They also performed two times better than those who simply learned the words by speaking them. This study provides the first experimental evidence that a listen-and-repeat singing method can support foreign language learning and opens the door for future research in this area. Singing is a fun way to learn, leading to greater motivation to continue learning.
Here is a video of Bob Marley's song "Three Little Birds" with lyrics that I think we could all use now and sing along to! |

The ADDIE Model of Instructional Design |
"The acronym 'ADDIE' stands for Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. It is an Instructional Design model that has withstood the test of time and use. It is simply a “device” to help us think through a course’s design. Though the model appears linear, it does not have to be followed rigidly or in a linear approach, especially if you already have course materials developed." The following are illustrated videos from the EdTech Dojo on each aspect of the ADDIE model: |
