Active Participation in the First Canadian Summit on Afghanistan, 13th, August

On August 13, the AWCM was proud to have actively contributed to exciting discussions at the first Canadian Summit on Afghanistan, hosted by Afghan Youth Engagement & Development Initiative.

Our Executive Director played a pivotal role as a panelist alongside renowned leaders focused on Afghan communities in Canada during the 2nd anniversary of the Taliban regime.

 

Facilitating a Safe Space for the Community by Gathering People, 1st, August

The AWCM is honored to use the power of collective action to facilitate a safe space for the community to gather and support one another.

Red Cross Project Approval, Aug. 18th.

We are thrilled to announce that Afghan Women’s Center Montreal has been granted the prestigious approval of the Red Cross Recovery Fund after COVID-19 Pandamic! Receiving the Red Cross approval is a symbol of trust and quality in the field of humanitarian and community services. It signifies that our organization adheres to the highest ethical and operational standards, ensuring that we can provide aid and support effectively in times of need.

Advocating and Fundraising for Earthquake in Afghanistan

12th, October

On October 12th, The Afghan Women's Center of Montreal (AWCM) had a fundraising program to send aid to Afghanistan, where two consecutive earthquakes with over 85 aftershocks have struck the western province of Herat. "We work to help because we can," sums up Mohammad Tawfiq Fushanji, whose family survived the disaster.

We have made urgent appeals to both the Canadian government and our valued partners for their immediate assistance to aid the victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Afghanistan, which tragically claimed over 3,000 lives.

Participating in the Women's  Symposium

The Afghan Women Center in Montreal is thrilled to announce its active participation hosted by Canadian women for women in Afghanistan with collaboration of the McGill Faculty of Law's public symposium on October 13th and 14th. The AWCM addressed challenges faced by Afghan women inside and outside of Afghanistan, with a focus on gender apartheid & the reason that gender apartheid exists and advising the pratical solutions for this problem.

At the Afghan Women’s Center Montreal, we're committed to making a positive impact in the lives of Afghan refugees and empowering women right here in Montreal.

With the recent changes in Afghanistan, the need for humanitarian aid and support is greater than ever. We're working tirelessly to sponsor more Afghan individuals and families to find safety and refuge on Canadian soil.

But our mission doesn't stop there! We believe in creating opportunities right here in our community. That's why we're giving local women a platform to lead and inspire change.

Participating in Volunteer Fairs at Concordia and McGill Universties Oct. 18th and Oct. 26th.

Development of partnership with two major universities in Montreal will allow us to recruite more students from dfiferent fields who will have the opportunity to lear more and enhance thier skills as well as to gain firsthand experience. Together, we're making a difference in our community and building a brighter future.

Launching A Pilot Project of Finger Food Program Every Wednesday in Our Building

Every Wednesday, we serve delicious Afghan finger Food cooked by talented afghan women in Afghan Women’s Center Montreal. Have a taste of the variety of our delicious food which will be served from 00:12 P.M. to 03:00 P.M.

Appreciation for Volunteers From Concordia and McGill Universities

Hats off to our fantastic McGill and Concordia volunteers!

Lou Alexandre , is a rockstar in administrative affairs, making everything run smoothly. Alexander Le Baccon and Champagne Juliette, their French lessons are a game-changer for Afghan newcomers. And a special thanks to India Mosca for crafting the powerful stories of seniors and refugees in our book. Their efforts are transforming lives and helping AWCM reach its goals.

Mohammad Tawfiq Fushanji

 

Mohmmad has just joined the AWCM amazing team as a liaison agent. He is a PHD candidate at Concordia University. Mohammad is newly arrived in Canada all the while his integration in this society going smoothy his passionately motivated to learn more and having a better understanding of the Quebec society. His passion is to bring positive contribution to our cause and to aid newcomers and immigrants. Thrilled to have him on our team.

  • Understands copywriting and has the skills to prove it

  • Understands social media strategies

  • Proficient in graphic design

  • Proficient in both English and French language

  • Participates in the curation and development of our brand image in all written content

  • Exceptional organizational skills, detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects while respecting deadlines

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working in the non-profit sector an asset

  • Experience in office administration is a requirement

  • Previous experience in social media (Instagram & Facebook)

  • Excellent writing and oral skills in both English & French

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, and computer skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Journalism, Gender Studies, International Studies, Communications and/or Marketing

  • Excellent analytical skills
