YCL Announces New Library Catalog System |
York County Library is excited to announce SirsiDynix Symphony, our new ILS! This new system will launch Thursday, June 22. |
What is an ILS? An ILS, or integrated library system, is a computer software system used to manage all the essential functions of a library, from searching the catalog and checking out items, to placing orders or making payments. |
With Symphony, you’ll find these great new features: New look: Experience a much more robust "My Account" area. Improved searching: Easily search the catalog, check out or place a hold on items, and even renew items previously checked out. BLUECloud Mobile app: Access your account no matter where you are.
In preparation for our system upgrade, all YCL locations will be closed from Saturday, June 17, through Sunday, June 25. What does this mean for you? No items will be due during the closing. Book drops will remain open. Locker holds must be picked up by Thursday, June 15. All library lockers will be unavailable starting Friday, June 16. The last day to pick up any active holds is Friday, June 16. Beginning Sunday, June 18, your account and the online catalog will be unavailable. Interlibrary Loan Service will stop Sunday, June 11, and resume on Monday, June 26. On Thursday, June 22, your PIN/password on your library account will be reset to the last four digits of your phone number on file.
We may be closing, but we'll still have a great variety of virtual programs for all ages, and remember that YCL's Virtual Library is available 24/7! Access free eBooks, audiobooks, and more with your library card, and enjoy 3 additional hoopla digital Instant Borrows during June and July. We’ll also have limited free "Take and Make" activity kits and a paperback collection available outside each YCL location from Tuesday, June 20, through Friday, June 23. Look for more details soon at yclibrary.org! Thank you for your patience while we work to bring you an improved Library experience! |

Drawing for Beginners: Free Online Workshop |
Drawing is a popular hobby and a fundamental skill used in a wide range of fields, including illustration, animation, graphic design, architecture, and engineering. It can also be a rewarding and enjoyable way to express emotions, communicate ideas, or simply capture the beauty of the world around us. |
Whether you're a professional artist or just starting out, don’t miss "Drawing for Beginners," a free, four-part online workshop from Workforce Opportunity Services that will help you discover how to express yourself and explore your creativity through drawing. Each Wednesday in June, you'll join artist and instructor Barbara Freiberg via Zoom for a step-by-step approach to drawing. She'll guide you in the use of lines, shapes, and angles as you learn about composition and proportion, devoting every week to an artist and a technique. |
Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Please enter YORK COUNTY LIBRARY or YCL where it asks where you heard about the program. For more about this series and its weekly featured artists, techniques, and suggested supplies, visit wforce.org. |

Artist Joyce Morrow Jones Shares Stories, Art |
On May 20, YCL welcomed acclaimed artist, storyteller, and author Joyce Morrow Jones for a special interactive storytelling session and discussion of Gullah culture, literature, and art. Children enjoyed Ms. Jones' classic "Frog and Toad" tale while illustrating their own scenes from the story, and afterward, adults were treated to an exciting discussion of Ms. Jones' "AnceSTORY" art exhibition, currently being held at The Dalton Gallery. |
Following the programs, Ms. Jones led the group to the gallery for a personally guided tour of her beautiful art. York County Library would like to express our appreciation to Ms. Jones and all those who attended, and we also thank the Arts Council of York County for this unique opportunity. |
