Hello from Solitude Lab

Psychology Department of Durham University

Happy Spring 2023!

This April, our lab would like bring you a few updates on the projects that you have participated in, and say thank you for your contribution and support for our research!

Last year, we invited residents who live alone within 30-mile radius of Durham county to tell us stories about their solo living experiences. We have now finished data collection and began coding. The findings will be shared in a public lecture at 11.30AM - 1.30PM on July 5, 2023. This event is open to everyone and there will be light refreshments served at the end. We would love to have you. Please register here to let us know you are joining.

This year, we continue to interview people about their solitary experiences. We focus on those who are going through life transitions. We are recruiting first-year students, first-time mothers with a small child, or people who are transitioning into retirement. We hope to gain insights into how they cope with being alone, whether having too much or too little of it. You can read more about the project here. Please do share this with your community, friends, and family!

 Best wishes,

Dr. Thuy-vy Nguyen & Team
