This month we bring to you the story of one of our trainers. This young woman, a skilled welder, has inspired, empowered, and trained several young women to enter a male-dominated sector like welding. We hope you will be as inspired by her as the rest of us. We also bring to you the experience of a group of our alumni who work at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. This edition also offers a range of reports that address various topics, including the declining participation of women in the workforce and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on wages. Welding the Skilling Gap Meet Ashwini Harimkar, a talented welder trainer from Akola, Maharashtra who is on a mission to inspire other girls to pursue a career in welding. Ashwini shares her journey of following her passion and breaking through the barriers that often discourage women from entering this field. Despite facing challenges, she persevered and is now determined to help other young women see the potential and opportunities that welding has to offer. |

| | Gender-Equity & the Workforce The FSG report, which surveyed over 6,000 low-income women in 14 Indian states, studies the factors contributing to low participation and suggests ways in which the government, businesses, individuals, and philanthropists can work to increase involvement. Shining Stars: Our Alumni at Ramoji Film City In Shaadnagar, a town near Hyderabad, Pratham has fostered the growth of a talented group of young people in the hospitality industry. These promising students are excelling in their positions at the Hotel Sahara in Ramoji Film City. Some of these have also taken the opportunity to work at the Ramoji ice cream factory, where they have found great satisfaction in their jobs. One student, overjoyed with his experience, expressed his love for his job in Telugu: "Ikkaḍa nāku cālā iṣṭaṁ," or "I like it here very much." |
