JUNE E-Newsletter

Pride Month, celebrated in June, commemorates the 1969 riots at the Stonewall Inn and the birth of the LGBTQ+ Rights Movement in America. Since that time, Pride Month has grown to be a global celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. This Pride Month we're highlighting some new resources from our friends at the South & Kent County Regional Coalitions.

Are you interested in supporting LGBTQ+ youth in substance use prevention? Join the Kent County Prevention Coalition’s LGBTQ+ Youth Workgroup! The workgroup is open to any and all LGBTQ+ people and allies, all that is required is a desire to support LGBTQ+ youth. If you are interested in taking part, please email workgroup coordinator Danielle Jahnke at djahnke@risas.org for the virtual meeting link.

The South and Kent County Prevention Coalitions are now offering free Safe Zone Training to various organizations, businesses, and workplaces! This is an excellent 2-hour workshop to provide a basic LGBTQ+ knowledge foundation along with strategies on how to address LGBTQ+ discrimination and an opportunity to ask questions in a non-judgmental space. For more information, you can visit www.thesafezoneproject.com

Community History Hike!

The Richmond Historical Society is joining us for our Community Hike on Saturday, June 18 at 10am to the grave site of Elder Daniel Davis. Daniel Davis was an enslaved man who escaped from Maryland and came to RI around 1865. He became an ordained minister and preached at St. Thomas' when it was a non-denominational church in the late 1800's. He is buried in a family plot that is about a mile behind the church.

All are welcome. The hike starts at St. Thomas in Alton.
