PASTORAL PAGE JESUS CHRIST - OUR ADVOCATE WITH THE FATHER by Dr Daniel Chan Five weeks ago, we marked Christ’s ascension into heaven which according to the Bible took place 40 days after His resurrection on Easter Sunday. In that weekend’s Pastoral Page, Dr Peter Lim shared that although Christ’s ascension may not be widely commemorated, its significance is fundamental to the Christian faith. Christ’s ascension confirmed the completion of His primary ministry on earth—namely His sacrificial death on the cross whereby He atoned for the sin of man and redeemed man from eternal damnation. His ascension inaugurated the era of the Holy Spirit which is marked by Pentecost, and it was at His ascension that the disciples were assured of His return. JOURNEY THROUGH THE WILDERNESS A School of Continuing Education (SCE) Course on the Book of Numbers Dates: June 22, 29; July 6, 13, 20, 27 (Six Saturdays) Time: 10.00am-11.30am Platform: Zoom Instructor: Ms Seah Jiak Choo The Book of Numbers details the story of Israel as they make their way through the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land. The narrative reveals the faithfulness of God amidst human rebellion, and explores polar themes such as inheritance and disinheritance, obedience and disobedience, unity and diversity. Numbers anticipates Israel’s conquest and inheritance of the promised land as recorded in Joshua, which our church is studying this year. It also provides insights and applications for our spiritual journey, especially as we go through our own wilderness wanderings in life. This course will be conducted by Ms Seah Jiak Choo, a gifted and experienced teacher of God’s Word, and a regular preacher at our services. Sign up here for the course and receive notes. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: THINKING ABOUT FOOD Come share a healthy meal on 30 June 2024 (Sunday) from 12:30-2pm at The Well to adopt food choices for blood sugar control. Dr Chia Su-Ynn is an experienced specialist in treating diabetes whilst Ps Lim Wei-en needs no further introduction. Together we will speak of food choices and related biblical perspectives. THE PARENTING TEENAGERS COURSE 2024 As a child enters into their teenage years, they face many major transitions in their life as they try to seek out their identity. In doing so, they may exhibit disruptive behaviour like being more rebellious, challenging authority more often or they may swing to the other extreme and become more reserved. The teen may become closer to their friends and begin to distance themself from their parents, thereby becoming more easily influenced by the company that they keep. The Parenting Teenagers Course aims to help parents, step-parents, prospective parents and/or caregivers of teenagers aged 11-18 years as they navigate through parenting their teenager through these turbulent years. Through video teaching sessions and group discussions, participants will learn how to meet our teenager’s needs, set boundaries for them, help develop their emotional health and help them make good choices in life. In addition, selected additional topics that our teenagers face today like online gaming and cyber-bullying will also be presented as supplemental topics.
