Haiti has been struggling for some time now with political unrest, inflation, and insecurity, among other things. Over the past few weeks, the situation has intensified. After the Prime Minister announced another rise in gas prices, the Haitian people were rightfully upset and wanted to fight for change. They have declared “Peyi Lok” – meaning the country is essentially on lock down. Haitian citizens are protesting, blocking roads and stopping regular activity until the government makes changes. This has caused an array of problems throughout the country, delaying the start of the school year, forcing businesses to close and leaving communities to deal with food and fuel shortages. Things are quickly going from bad to worse and because of this there has been a call for international communities to intervene. While this may not be the Haitian people’s first choice... there doesn’t seem to be a better one at the moment. We have faith that God is doing incredible things in Haiti, despite the unrest, and we are hopeful for positive change. We ask that you keep Haiti close to your heart in this difficult season.
