Dear Friends of Hauke Park,
It was lovely seeing you at the first ever FOHP Social. The weather turned out great, and the company was delightful. We wish we had remembered to take some pictures but we were having such a fun time!
Now back to the task at hand. It is critical that we show the City Council and EAH our strong opposition to the Hamilton project, and to the City’s deception and lack of transparency. For two years we have been limited to making 90-second comments over Zoom, with nothing but canned responses from the City. Now the City wants to limit neighborhood input on the Hamilton project to the relocation of bathrooms instead of the density and size of the project, which are absurdly out of scale with our neighborhood. One key feature of Hamilton that the City never bothered to mention for the last two years is that the Hamilton project will house tenants who need “supportive housing,” which can include both homeless and severely mentally ill depending upon which government funding EAH chooses to accept.
Although the City has been saying for two years that the project will house Mill Valley workers such as our local teachers, EAH has confirmed that in fact Hamilton will house tenants who need “supportive housing,” which can include both homeless and mentally ill depending upon which government funding EAH chooses to accept. This kind of deception from the City has characterized this project from the start. We expect more from our elected officials.
In addition, it is clear that the City intends to continue its discriminatory practice of confining all lower income Mill Valley residents to the area east of Camino Alto. The City refuses to use obvious infill opportunities much closer to transit and services, such as along Miller and downtown, or to prioritize the site their own consultant concluded was superior to the Hamilton site. Please attend in person on May 3 to show your support for our neighborhood, to oppose the City's discriminatory practices, and to demand transparency and honesty in our local government. It is time to give the City Council the message that they represent ALL of Mill Valley, not just west of Camino Alto.
Warm regards,
FOHP Advisory Committee
