October Meeting Details

The October general meeting will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 7:00 pm. There will be an in-person and a virtual option for this meeting. Members that are comfortable meeting in-person will meet at Gifford School. Please enter through the north-west/activities door. A zoom link will be sent out closer to the day of the meetings for those members who would like to meet virtually. There will be a computer and projector set up at the in-person meeting so members at the virtual meeting will be able to hear what is going on at the in-person meeting, and members at the in-person meeting will be able to see those at the virtual meeting. We are encouraging all members, (both those attending in-person and virtually) to wear their Halloween costumes to the meeting. After the business portion of our meeting, there will be separate activities for members attending in-person and virtually including costume parades and some fun games/crafts led by the junior leaders. If you plan on attending the meeting virtually, please contact jennifer@weisensel.com to let us know so that you can pick up a craft supply kit for the meeting.
The Cedar Crest Ice Cream Contest is happening again this year, and we would like for our club to come up with a flavor of ice cream to submit. Please start thinking up some delicious ice cream flavors to share with the rest of the club at the October meeting. We can't wait to see you and all of your costumes at the meeting on Monday, October 11 at 7:00 pm.

Thank You Cards for Project Leaders

Although last year was not a normal year in terms of project meetings, our leaders found creative ways to reach out to our members and we want to be sure to recognize their efforts. If you have not done so already, please be sure to write thank you cards to the leaders who helped you through your 4-H year. We are so grateful for our leaders who are all volunteers and give so freely of their time and talents. You can drop off your cards at the October meeting or contact  the Weisensels and drop them off in the Tucker tub at their house

September Meeting Recap

Our first meeting of the year was a success! We had many new families come to the in-person meeting to see what Tucker 4-H is all about. All of the Adult and Jr leader officers introduced themselves to kick off the meeting. We had a small amount of information shared at both the in-person and the online meetings. The Jr leaders put together a video with all of the business for the September meeting, which was shared through the Tucker 4-H website. The in-person meeting was held at Franksville park and led by Shannon. The visual Meeting was held on zoom and Led by Mary. After the main portion of the meeting we also played a fun guessing game, led by JP and Hunter. Thank you to everyone that attended the September meeting. I look forward to many more fun meetings with everyone!

Shannon Roberts.

Parent Survey

Attention all parents - a 4-H Club is only as strong as its families.  4-H is built on the involvement of kids, parents, guardians, families, and volunteers.

We know you all have talents and skills that would help make our club even better.  Have a hidden talent?  Love helping plan a particular event or the June picnic?

We’re collecting your skills, passions, and preferences in this Google Form to help make sure everyone can be involved where they are most interested.

Popular projects in need of leaders:

  • Cake Decorating
  • Clothing/Sewing
  • Drawing and Painting
  • Foods and Nutrition
  • Gardening/Plants
  • Leathercraft
  • Legos
  • Photography
  • Poultry
  • Small Animals
  • Woodworking

Additionally, if you have any special talents or interests not on this list that you would be able to share, we would be happy to have you as a leader!

JUNIOR LEADER CORNER

Theme:  Getting Involved Early in the Year

Welcome back, Tucker Junior Leaders!  As a friendly reminder, there are two definitions of a 4-H “Junior Leader”:

  1. Project Junior Leader - you assist an adult leader in running project meetings

  2. Junior Leader - EVERYONE in 7th grade and above!  Congrats - if you’re in 7th grade or above, 4-H automatically considers you a Junior Leader!

Okay, great, but what does that mean?

It means you can get involved in new and fun ways throughout the 4-H year on the club, county, and state level.  Some examples include:

  1. Attending Racine County Junior Leader Meetings (4th Monday of the Month)

  2. Being a counselor to younger 4-Hers at Night with the Stars, Cloverbud Fun Day, Day Camp, Base Camp, and More!

  3. Attending State-wide events like Art Beat, Washington Arts Discovery Day, Farm Tech Days, and much, much more! (TBD due to COVID-19)

  4. Helping plan a Tucker General Meeting or Club Outing

Sounds cool, but how do I do those things?

In 4-H, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with information.  For #1-3, we are going to mostly defer to the email communications sent by Jen Reese and Pam Larsen from the Racine County 4-H Office.  They have the most up to date information and coordinate programming on the county and state levels.

For #4, we would love to have you involved!

  1. The Junior Leaders meet on the 3rd Monday of the Month at 7pm to plan awesome meetings and activities.

  2. If you’d like to chair or be on a committee to plan anything from a Winter Activity (like ice skating) to our April Meeting, please email or speak with your Junior Leader Advisors, Jenna Franseen (jcfranseen@gmail.com ) and Melissa Schmidt (tiki51580@outlook.com).

Tucker Officer Training

We are so grateful to our new officers for stepping forward into leadership roles this year! Each office carries with it unique responsibilities and expectations. There will be a brief Tucker officer training at the next scheduled Tucker junior leader meeting. If you are an officer this year, you will be given a folder of materials related to your office. Be sure to have this folder when you attend the meeting on Monday, October 18 at 7:00 PM. It is important that all officers attend this meeting so they are aware of how to properly carry out the duties of their offices. A Zoom link will be sent out prior to the meeting. We are looking forward to a great year!

Shadow an Officer

Do you think it looks fun to lead club general meetings like the older officers do? Tucker is going to be starting a program called "Mini Officers." Younger members who are too young to be an officer can shadow one of the older officers and help them in their role during the meeting by giving an announcement, helping at the attendance table, passing out supplies, or other related tasks. If this sounds fun to you, please look at the office descriptions in this Google Doc and then fill out this Google Form to indicate which office you would be interested in learning about and helping with.

Kiwanis Essay Contest

The Kiwanis essay contest is a great way to reflect on your 4-H year and what you learned as well as compete in a fun contest. The Kiwanis Club of Racine sponsors this contest each year to support Racine County 4-H. Anyone who was in third grade or above last school year (2020-21) and fulfils a few requirements regarding exhibiting at the fair can enter. You will need to fill out a short application and write a 200 or less word essay (really it is only about 2 paragraphs) about a 4-H project you enjoyed and a fun 4-H experience you had during the year. The application and essay is due by 4pm on October 26th and more information and the application can be found by going to racinecounty4h.org and then the 4-H Forms and Documents tab. If you have any questions about the contest, please contact one of our general leaders. We really hope many Tucker members participate because it is very easy and shows our appreciation of Kiwanis' support of 4-H!

Fall Forum
Fall Forum is coming up soon! It will be held on Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th. Fall Forum is a wonderful opportunity to meet 4-Hers from all over the state of Wisconsin. It was held virtually last year and will be virtual again this year. It is for junior leaders and adult leaders. Fall Forum includes exciting sessions about a variety of topics that are really enjoyable. The sign up was previously sent out from state 4-H by Laura Pine. If you want to attend, make sure you sign up soon because the sign up window ends on October 10th. I highly encourage you to go. It is a super fun event and you can learn valuable leadership skills if you attend!
