The Queensland Families and Communities Association Inc will hold its Annual General Meeting at 11.00 am Tuesday 6th November 2018 at Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre, 38 Thallon St, Sherwood. Community Development Queensland is holding a seminar on Place Based Community Work.  It will feature aboriginal and neighbourhood centre perspectives from Grant Paulson (World Vision), Fiona Hunt (QCOSS) and Ann Ingamels (Coalition of Community Boards).  It's on Thursday 1st Nov 4-6pm at Griffith University South Bank and is the last CD Seminar for the year. More details are below:

The Victorian Government has announced new funding for 27 Neighbourhood Centres across the state.  16 will be newly established whilst 11 are existing centres who will receive funding for the first time. There are more than 400 Neighbourhood Houses in Victoria supporting 200,000 people each week.  The QFCA encourages the Queensland Government to invest comparable amounts into Neighbourhood Centres across our state.

Brisbane Innovate is taking place on the 7th November 2018.  This is a giant collaborative think tank to solve issues in the Brisbane City Council Region.  This year’s challenges will focus on unlocking the value of waste, tackling social isolation and empowering local communities to create vibrant and proud neighbourhoods.  Click below for more info:

Changefest 2018 is not too far away! ChangeFest 2018 will celebrate the most inspiring and impactful community change from Australia and around the world. It's a week long smorgasbord of Place Based discussions, forums and training from the 19th to 23rd November at the Logan Entertainment Centre.  Click below to register:

ACOSS and the University of NSW have released the 2018 Poverty in Australia Report. The research indicates that over 3 million people (13.2%) are living below the poverty line of 50% of median income.  You can read more about the report below:

The Queensland Mental Health Commission has released a report on improving the ability of individuals with a lived experience of mental health difficulties, mental illness, and/or problematic substance use to take up referrals in Far Western Queensland.  You can read the report at the link below:

The Federal Government has announced a significant increase in funding for youth mental health service Headspace across the nation, including the expansion of online counselling services to regional and remote areas.You can read more about the $52 million funding boost here:
