Conversations with My Thoughts |

In August, the sun begins to set on summer. As the sun begins its descent into fall, there is a tension in the air to squeeze in all those last summer moments. Even as the day is concluding, the fun doesn’t wind down, it can’t - it is summer after all! As I am running around hitting my “lasts of summer” I get that sensation of a kid with a head rush from laughing a little too hard and playing like it was their job, like it is their purpose in life. Amidst those adventures, I acquired a variety of bruises, scraps, mosquito bites, and burns but, I don’t mind - it was in the name of fun and summer. My body clearly tells a story of a summer lived right. As I’m catching my breath while still playing, September begins. It is like a parent is calling me inside for the evening because it is getting dark and it’s dinner time. It is time to put the games away, eat dinner, and start my homework. I plead for just five more minutes hoping that would satiate my hope for an endless summer. Those five minutes pass in a blink of an eye and I am still wishing I could stay a little longer but, that is the nature of summer. It always ends quicker than you think and I always wish I could have just a little bit more. It is time to put the water balloons and bathing suits away and get ready to settle in, to get cozy. To get cozy for fall even though I don’t want it just yet. As I return to what feels like the school year, I can begin to tell that this was a summer full of memories. A kind of summer that people write stories about. I know come May I will be staring at the clock like a kid in a classroom with anticipation for it to strike 3pm. The bell will ring, the cheers will fill the air, and summer will be here at last. |
