October Greetings 🎀

It’s that time of year when we are inundated with stories of women’s battles with breast cancer. I am not a fan of that metaphor. The problem with the image of a battle for illness, for pain, for cancer is that if you don’t make it, it’s as if you haven’t tried hard enough - which is ridiculous and unfair.

I prefer to externalise pain or illness. I encourage you to use metaphors that make sense to you, such as:

an unwanted guest

a stray dog

A storm

A hole in the ground

A backseat driver..

Come up with images that you can place limits on, that you can create distance from and that are separate from you.

We don’t need to turn our bodies into battlegrounds, life is hard enough as it is.

On a happier note, I commissioned my daughter to make this picture for me. It is called Flavours of Pain.

I recommend living with 14 year olds. What they lack in tidying up ability they make up for in humour, insight and artistic talent.

Non steroidal anti inflammatories - some interesting research.

Here is the link to a paper that explains why our bodies create an acute inflammatory response and how that protects against the development of chronic pain..

NSAIDs linked to chronic pain?

I turned my first ten videos into a blog post for you

I have been making videos for social media and now I've put my first batch in a blog for those of you who don't use social media. The link is below 👇🏽

This image has nothing to do with my blog post - I just think we sometimes need to be reminded to add a bowtie to our chicken hats and get on with life as best we can

xx
