Impact Story
During our North Escambia Baby Shower, a mom came in with her baby for supplies. She had walked with the baby from over a mile away. When trying to coordinate a ride home for her, it was discovered that mom was struggling financially and had little to no resources. While one Healthy Start staff member babysat her infant, another took her aside and completed an intake form, while others still worked to gather as many supplies as they could for her. The coalition and community partners supplied mother with diapers, a pack and play, a car seat, and taught mom how to properly use the equipment. She did not have a ride home and was transported by private vehicle to make sure she got home safely. The coalition followed up by using emergency funds to provide mother with a $200 Walmart gift card and enrolled her in services with Healthy Start for ongoing care coordination.
