New marine facility for Wynyard Quarter confirmed

 

A new marine refit facility expected to create marine jobs and deliver significant marine and tourism spending, has been confirmed for Wynyard Quarter. The new facility, adjacent to the current Orams site, will feature a marine haul out and refit facility, along with commercial and residential buildings. It will target marine vessels up to 800 tonnes, which account for 85% of the world marine market. It is due to be ready in time for the America’s Cup races.

Auckland Bike Challenge underway

 

It’s not too late to get involved in the 2020 Auckland Bike challenge. This is a fun, free competition which is all about getting people to ride a bike for just 10 minutes or more.  There are bragging rights on the line and some prizes to win.  Wynyard Quarter has its’ own events throughout February and some cool prizes - see here for details. Whether you ride all the time or haven't ridden in years, the challenge is for you.

More NX2 buses announced

 

Auckland Transport has confirmed that they will be adding an additional 20 NX2 buses at peak times.  These will be express services from Hibiscus Coast station to the city and will start in late February.  It is hoped that the extra buses will improve travel time from Hibiscus Coast and will take away the need to change buses at Albany.

Better travel choices for Auckland

 

A number of reports have been produced over the summer months including Keeping Cities Moving (NZTA), and Better Travel Choices (AT).  The plan for Auckland (Better Travel Choices) has been produced by various transport agencies working together. The aim is to create a more accessible, healthy, safe and sustainable Auckland by reducing the reliance on private vehicles.

Changes to public transport

 

With all the development work taking place in the city centre, there have been quite a few changes to bus routes, bus stops and bus fares over the past few weeks.  Keep up to date with all the latest news by looking at the AT website. This is where service changes are regularly updated.  AT now have a handy key tag option for your HOP card.  You can transfer your balance from your credit card style HOP card on the key tag option.
