A revolution in energy recovery from waste

October 2023 Newsletter

Welcome to our October 2023 Newsletter! Apologies for the delay this month - as you can see below October was another very busy month with the Wildfire team working across three continents. . . Find out the latest about Wildfire Energy and our progress to recover renewable energy, hydrogen and sustainable fuels from everyday wastes.

WILDFIRE ENERGY WINS PETRONAS FUTURETECH 3.0

Wildfire Energy is pleased to announce that they have been awarded equal first prize in the prestigious Petronas Futuretech 3.0 program completed at Demo Day this month in Kuala Lumpur.

After an extensive assessment process Wildfire were selected into the final 25 startup companies to undertake a comprehensive incubator program over the last 16 weeks, sponsored by Petronas and a range of other corporate partners. The FT3.0 program culminated on October 31st with Jamie Roodenrys making a 4 minute pitch to an audience of over 350 venture capital and industry experts at the KL Conference Centre.

The prize involves advanced commercial support and engagement across the APAC region with the FT3.0 sponsors and will help our team achieve greater connections and project identification and development throughout the region and beyond. See more pictures and the pitch here.

TRIP TO JAPAN

During October, the Wildfire team spent one week in Japan visiting customers and potential partners and investors.

Wildfire visited eSep Inc in Kyoto, who make membranes to enhance chemical reactions that enable modular production of chemicals from syngas very cost effective.

Wildfire continues to build good relations with a range of Japanese companies and expects to make further announcements in relation to collaborations and partnerships in the coming months. . .

TRIP TO USA

Wildfire participated in the ClimateSalad climate tech trade mission to San Francisco supported by Trade and Investment Queensland. One of the highlights was joining the VERGE conference with 5,000 delegates from across the globe.

RAMPING UP HYDROGEN PRODUCTION

Wildfire will be ramping up hydrogen production from the pilot plant over the next few months. Wildfire has recently received empty hydrogen packs for filling!

GRANTS UPDATE

Wildfire Energy has been fortunate to secure nearly $3 million of government grants from the Queensland Government and the Australian Federal Government since its inception. In deeptech, winning competitive government grants is a prerequisite to being able to fund activities such as pilot plant construction and operations and demonstration plant engineering. Wildfire is currently delivering on the grants it has been awarded and is progressing the following new grant opportunities:

Bulwer Island FEED Study - ARENA Industrial Engineering and Transformation Studies

Wildfire together with Calix and a multi-national trading company have applied for funding support to complete the FEED study for the Bulwer Island Energy and Hydrogen Recovery project. The grant application successfully passed the EOI stage in July and the full application has been assessed by the panel committee. Wildfire may receive a funding offer from ARENA by the end of the year.

MIHG Waste to Sustainable Aviation Fuels - ARENA SAF Funding Initiative

Aviation needs renewable fuels in order to decarbonise. Wildfire has assembled a world class consortium consisting of a Japanese multi-national with a methanol synthesis catalyst and a technology developer with a novel membrane reactor, a global engineering company and a global technology company. The consortium has applied to undertake a Feasibility Study and Pilot Demonstration of MIHG Waste to SAF technology.

Wildfire is working on other grant opportunities with partners - so stay tuned for more announcements in due course !

WILDFIRE NAMED A TOP 100 CLIMATE TECH COMPANY

Wildfire Energy has been named in the 2023 Australia and New Zealand Climate Tech 100 by HolonIQ in the Circular Economy category. This follows our entry onto the list in 2022.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Wildfire Energy will be attending and exhibiting at the Cleantech Forum Europe event to be held in Tallinn, Estonia on November 14 - 16.

WE CAN NEITHER CONFIRM NOR DENY

Unfortunately we can neither confirm nor deny some of the most popular rumours that we've heard on our travels recently:

  • that Wildfire is working with a Pacific Island nation to develop a waste to power project using MIHG technology to decarbonise the island

  • that a large industrial gas company has approached Wildfire to purchase industrial grade and ultrapure grade hydrogen from our pilot plant operations
