Our ''Apprenticeship Opportunties and Careers Fair'' for this year was a hit with the community. The online event that was held on Zoom on Tuesday the 13th of April featured the participation of delegates from the Doncaster area and beyond. We were joined by special guests and various speakers who are vast in their vocations. As well as apprentices and graduate schemes beneficiaries from organisations Like BT, Lloyds Banking Group and Servelec who shared their experience to the delight of the delegates.
The event was kickstarted by our Mayor; Ros Jones, sharing her work experience with our Kickstarters; Drew and Arin.
Ros started her career as an trainee in an accounting firm. She chose accounting because she loved numbers. Mathematics was common sense to her, she said. In her speech later on at the event she encouraged young people to choose their career wisely, making sure that their choices relates to what they love doing. Ros encouraged delegates to embrace apprenticeship and not see it as a route for ''the not so bright'' as perceived by many.
We also had an inspiring speech from the Civic Mayor; Cll. Paul Wray who praised the heroic work that Knowledge Pool is doing in the community. Our speakers, from Joe Hockney (Sheffield Hallam Univserity) to Mathew Lawrie (Doncaster Chamber), Suzanne Eusman Dawn Jones (Autism Plus), Holly Pollock, Shelby Lefly (Lloyds Banking Group) Tracey Butterfield (Doncaster College) and Keno Mario-Ghae (Little Car Company) delivered very insightful presentations and answered many questions that satisfied the curiosity of our delegates.
