7.23.20 Orange County Protests Community Coalition This weeks newsletter includes several actions that organized by a series of Orange County based grassroots organizations. OCPCC is so excited for the work that we'll be doing in the future toward making OC a safer, more diverse and equitable place for all of its community members! |

As we begin taking more organized action toward social justice and equity in OC we want to provide our socially conscious community members with opportunities to assist disenfranchised individuals through other local organizations. We ask that when attending events you continue to wear a mask and social distance. The following are actions, donations and support you can give to other local organizations. |

@transformingjusticeoc has put together a survey for the Peoples Budget OC! If you've been paying attention to the work BLM Los Angeles (@blmlosangeles) and Build Power (@bldpwr) have been doing in LA, this is the path forward to have our county and cities fund #carenotcops and divest from traditional policing. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey. Once completed send to your direct community to complete as well!

The Orange County Public Defenders and The Black OC have called on the community to support our brother Mohamed Sayem. Mohamed was arrested in 2018 while sleeping in his car. In the process of the arrest he was brutalized by the arresting officer who falsified the original police report and is currently suspended from the OC Sherifs department and being criminally investigated for several counts of evidence tampering. The arresting officer also told Sayem that he "would like to [shoot him]" while Sayem was laying facedown on the ground after being viscously attacked by the officer. While the corrupt officer is being reviewed from the comfort of his home Mohamed still sits in jail two years later for an overcharged crime that was filed against him by the very man who violently attacked and threatened him. Friday morning at 7:30am at the West Justice Center (8141 13th st. Westminster, Ca) we will be standing in solidarity with Mohamed and OC Public Defenders in order to demand justice. We are calling on both DA Todd Spitzer to hold his department accountable to upholding justice for its citizens. We are also calling on the OC Sherifs Department to dismiss the charges placed against Sayem. We ask that you join us in calling OCDA and OCSD to do the right thing and bring justice for Mohamed. |

@OCKnowJusticeKnowPeace is organizing several events in order to increase our safety and effectiveness at protests, demonstrations and meetings with our representatives such as the Board of Supervisors meeting (7.28.20) and city council meetings. Get more engaged in civic discourse to force our representatives to work on behalf of their constituencies. If you are unable to make it to in person events please attend the webinars and share these events with your communities. |

| | "Here at The People's Coalition, we are beginning an initiative to build relationships alongside our comrades impacted by the Prison Industrial Complex. This initiative is about building relationships and validating the fact that our struggles as Bl+POC, activists, sex workers, youth workers, differently-abled folx, immigrants, anti-capitalists, trans folx, queer folx, and gender-nonconforming people are intricately connected with prison abolition and liberation.
Through our Pen Pal and donation Program, we want to begin building sustained relationships with our captured comrades so we can provide them and their families the resources they need to survive as we work to dismantle the system that keeps our people locked in cages."
