Happy Independence Day, Family & Friends!!
June was a wonderful month, and we expect July to be even greater! We have lots going on down here… First, we want to ask you to pray for Ken. He will be having double eye surgery on July 8 to correct his bottom eye lids from drooping, so he can get rid of severe irritation in them. This is going to be a type of plastic surgery, so he will be down for several days, but the relief it will give him will hopefully be well worth it. We are supposed to go to DCI Prison in Louisiana at the end of that week, so pray he will be well enough for us to go. If we don’t get to, Richard and the team will go anyway and we’ll report next month what amazing things go on there. God always shows up in a huge way!
I am counseling again in a women’s Christian rehab in Foley called Coastal Recovery. It’s a year- long recovery program for women who are wanting help with addiction recovery, or are coming out of jail and need a safe and supervised place to start over in. Over time, they are allowed to work and save money in order to eventually get their own place when they are ready. They are also provided transportation back and forth to their jobs, and help to get their legal documents in order, like their birth certificates, social security cards and driver’s licenses. The recovery center has done a great job in connecting with the community, resulting in many job opportunities offered to these ladies. There is also another women’s and men’s rehab here now, called Big Fish Ministries. They have 2 large and successful thrift stores here where their clients can work under supervision at first until they are able to go out and get their own jobs. It is an incredible asset to our community now too! It has taken a long time for our county to get help for addicts here. They are needed everywhere! Addiction truly is a huge problem that does not have boundaries with whom it devours. It seeks the rich and poor, and all races across the board. Don’t ever think that your family and friends are immune…they are not! And if you have someone who is in need of some help in these areas, please contact me and I can get you in touch with them!
Ken is still teaching love and repentance in our local jails and seeing so much fruit! There was a fellow in there a couple of weeks ago that was amazed with the scripture of the 2nd greatest command of, “Love your neighbor as yourself”, Matthew 19:19. He didn’t believe that the word said that. All he could reply was that, “Nobody can do that!”, and just shook his head. And Ken of course said, “Well, that is what GOD would have you do. So, now go read it for yourself”! So, as the seed was sown, Ken left him to take that up with his Creator. Ken didn’t see him again after that. He had gotten out of jail. So, let’s hope and pray he will ponder on that thought and come to an understanding of what that means. I think if we were honest, we all might need to ponder that a little. What would it look like if we all loved the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength? AND love our neighbor as our self? Hmmm…We wouldn’t have much time to be putting ourselves first, would we? 😊 Just a thought…Love you all! Ken and Cindy
