The recent storm that hit Stony Point and the Hudson Valley caused widespread destruction throughout the town. Damage included road closures, flooding, and power outages.
First responders did an amazing job dealing with this unprecedented storm. Our Stony Point Highway Department, County Highway Department, and NYS DOT have been working hard to get our roads and parks open. We owe all these men and women our sincere thanks.
But this storm and the weather we've been experiencing including smoke from Canadian wildfires that had NY breathing the dirtiest air on the planet, along with the news that the earth had it's hottest day on record, has been a an eye opening reality check. All of us in Stony Point are now dealing with the effects of the climate change that we've been warned about for decades.
While there is much to be done on the national and international levels to deal with climate change, there are also many actions that our local Stony Point leaders can take, actions they've not taken. It's just the same old, same old, year after year.
As Stony Point cleans up from this 100 year storm it's clear that the status quo is no longer acceptable. We need leaders who lead. Please keep that in mind when you enter the voting booth and vote for candidates like Ellie Kassner that will step up and take action. It's the least we can do for our kids and grandkids.
