NEW TIME: Our monthly meetings will now start at 7 p.m. on the second Tues. of the month from Sept. to May.   We continue to meet in the training center room at the AIH on Dimond and the Old Seward Hwy.  Please enter by the door near the Duluth Trading Company.

The speaker for our March 14th meeting was Marc Brown.  Marc talked about his experiences building Fine Woodworking's "The Coolest Woodworking Cutting Board Ever?" (March 2013, https://www.finewoodworking.com/2013/03/26/the-coolest-cutting-board-ever). Those who attended report that his presentation was excellent. Marc recently relocated from Silicon Valley to Anchorage to be close to his granddaughters. After a career in high tech, Marc began taking woodworking classes at the local adult schools, and has been teaching woodworking at the Palo Alto Adult School for the past 7 years.  His email is: marc@chezbrown.org

TOOL SWAP:

Our  April monthly meeting on April 11th will be TOOL SWAP.  Bring tools you want to sell/trade.

ARTISTRY IN WOOD.  was a big success. We had over 150 entries from  carvers, scrollers, turners and woodworkers.  In addition, the AK Woodturning Association set up lathes at the rear of our space and members did live demos.  Joe Paluba demoed scroll sawing and Dohn Wood demoed using hand tools.  Several carvers were there doing demonstrations for caricatures and diamond willow.  Timber came several times and demonstrated his wonderful carving techniques.  Thanks to all who made the show a success.

Update From the Scrollers:

Congratulations to all the winners at this year's Artistry in Wood. A special thank you goes to Gordon Rosser for doing the demonstrations during the show. Hopefully the people who showed interest in the club will come to the April meeting.

There was no meeting for the Anchorage club in March due to Artistry in Wood. The valley group did meet in March.

There were two choices of projects this month. One was a collapsing basket and the other was a freestanding mouse. The basket was not as popular as the mouse. The mouse was to teach the group about sanding and shaping. Next month we will be doing a segmentation/intarsia project so these skills will come in handy.

The next meeting for the Anchorage club is Saturday, April 15th at the AIH training center from 10-2.

The valley group will be meeting on Saturday, April 22nd at the SBS building in Wasilla from 10-2. If you plan to come to this meeting please contact Rhonda Hayhyurst @ RhonHay61@gmail.com to ensure there is sufficient supplies.

Happy Scrolling!
