Reflections and bringing my game into the world! |
Hello! It is October, which means ... I turn 30 this month. I can't believe it but I'm moving from denial to acceptance ... kind of. Because it's also a new (Jewish) year and I have this milestone coming up, I'm sharing some lessons I've learned in the past year. I've been putting in a lot of hours over the past couple of months to finish my new products, like the game, Mitzvah or Shandah and calendars. Now I'm enjoying seeing people react and I'm feeling like it was all worth it. Enjoy! If you're new here, hi! I'm Danielle, a marketer, writer, and artist doodling about her life (@danielleindoodles) and Jewish things (@jewsindoodles). This newsletter, sent most Sundays, has new cartoons and updates on what I'm working on in both worlds. I love producing this newsletter and appreciate you following along! |

Lessons from the last year of my 20s |
The Jewish New Year, which is a time of reflection, falls around my birthday. Because I'm finally saying goodbye to my 20s on 10/22, I'm reflecting a little extra. And, my life looks very different than it did during most of my 20s. A pandemic happened and a lot of my friends left the city, I started a (cartoon?!) side business that's growing in ways I could have never imagined, I moved into my own apartment in Manhattan after always living in the outer boroughs, I experienced my longest and healthiest relationship and it ended amicably ... So, here are some of my takeaways, and maybe you can relate to some of them! |

My heart went into all of my new products, and so did everyone's opinions! |
Before I started the calendar and game project, I asked for opinions. People said I couldn't finish a game in two months. They told me no one uses paper calendars anymore. My sister said to make a calendar magnet (I listened!). These finished products are rewarding because the community was involved from the beginning, and I took feedback while also honoring what I wanted to do. I often remind myself: Danielle in Doodles is a passion project, go with your heart, Danielle! |

The story of how I made the game! |
The process for making this game was different than what I'd done before — I took it a little slower than normal and did a lot of testing. So I wrote about the process in this blog post! |

I brought the game to the Jewish Community Project's young professionals dinner last Sunday (remember Rabbi Deena was last week's Jew of the Week, and has been getting a lot of love on Instagram!!) after selling all day at Grand Bazaar. It's fostering great conversations and making people laugh! It's bringing me joy. |

Watch people stop by my table and read the cards! And, watch my dad react to seeing the game for the first time in this cute video! |

The calendar was my calling card for a wholesale order! |

I made a video this week introducing my calendar, and the owner of an online bookstore called Detour Books found me. It offers Yiddish writers, women writers and illustrators, and international children's books, plus uncommon decorative textiles, housewares, letterpress note cards and educational toys. She loved the calendar and bought some, plus magnets, games, and a Mother's Day card! |

I'm going to Comic Con in NYC on Friday. Do we want pics in the next newsletter? If anyone else is going, let me know! I'm also planning some great JOW interviews. Thanks for all your support! Doodles, Danielle |
