The Work Continues!

The leaves are falling but the temperature keeps fluctuating - it must be fall in Arkansas! Over the last few weeks we've seen highs and lows (just like the weather) in the State Legislature, and although it's been mainly "lows" when it comes to how the GOP majority is behaving and abusing their power, we are forever grateful to our dedicated Democrats who continue to stand up for what is right.

Governor Asa Hutchinson announced he will put out the call for a special session—tentatively the week of October 25th—to address tax cuts. Please be sure to contact YOUR ARLeg members to discuss tax cuts in general. We'll continue to share more information and talking points (if that is helpful) as the session develops.

Successful Women's March Events Across the State

On Saturday 10/2, 5 communities around the state held events/marches to actively voice the fight for Reproductive Freedom in Arkansas – it was a powerful statement and great to see so many new faces not just in the crowd but in organizing & leadership. We are looking forward to continuing to engage everyone who marched in the fight all the way through the 2022 elections (and beyond)!

SHOUT OUT TO the Washington County Democratic Women who had a tweet with a lot of traction – if your club is looking to increase your social media presence – let us know!

The DPA Has New Leadership!

The DPA State Committee met (virtually) on October 2 to elect new leadership – Congratulations to Grant Tennille, Chair; Phillip Hood, Treasurer; Dustin Parsons, Vice-Chair of Counties. Vice-Chair Nicole Hart will remain in her role and we are proud of the work she did as interim Chair and are excited for her continued leadership across the state.

There is so much work to do and the momentum to support it building across the state. One of the ongoing orders of business is to fundraise, fundraise, fundraise at the state level!

Please use the following link to donate directly to the state party in a matching challenge for AFDW. We are committed to donating at least $1,500 to the DPA.

We also encourage everyone to join the HEART OF THE PARTY – a commitment to a recurring donation to the Democratic Party of Arkansas.

We are grateful to those to donate to AFDW and understand that this is above and beyond your support of the Arkansas Federation of Democratic Women!

Arkansas has a new Caucus + AFDW Needs A New State Committee Member

Congratulations to the newly formed Veteran’s Caucus to support the work of the Democratic Party of Arkansas! And extra congratulations to the inaugural chair of the Veteran’s Caucus, our very own AFDW First VP Margaret Robinson!!!

As Margaret assumes this new role on the State Committee (she will remain as First VP of AFDW), that means we will have an open spot on the State Committee as an AFDW Representative. If you are interested in this position, please reply to this email to discuss expectations.

To be an AFDW representing State Committee Member, you must be an up-to-date member of AFDW which may include action at the County level. Being a state committee member entails attending (in full) meetings of the DPA State Committee on behalf of AFDW as well as reporting out information to be included in communications like these.

Please reply to this email if you are interested
or would like to nominate someone for this position within AFDW.

AFDW BYLAWS AMENDMENTS

We are at a point in our organization where we need to revisit our bylaws and we would love to have your input, feedback, and ideas. Please take a moment to participate in a survey to share your thoughts about updating our AFDW Bylaws.

You are invited to provide your feedback in either a written format or via a zoom discussion on October 17th. These opportunities have been created and shared so that members have space to learn about our bylaws and are able to discuss, ask questions, and be involved in the growth of our organization.

Read Our Current AFDW Bylaws

Complete the survey to provide your suggestions here: https://forms.gle/2egTZWuKCo8uRdxh6

The survey will be open for one more week and we will take responses into consideration as we update our bylaws.

“AFDW Bylaws Boot Camp” –
Join us on October 17th at 5 pm to collectively review where are bylaws stand now and where/how/if we need amendments. This is a group participation project and open discussion on how our organization should evolve.

Register in advance for this meeting HERE.
