COVID-19 Multicultural Youth Consultation

We are looking for young people to talk with about the impact of COVID-19 on young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. We'll discuss the changes to people's lives that COVID-19 has created as well as the policy, information and other changes you'd like to see. This consultation will help feed into resources that YACWA creates, the policy and advocacy response from YACWA and the COVID-19 recovery response of the State Government.

This consultation is capped at 10 people and we will be in touch ahead of the meeting to confirm you're still attending. This event is open to young people (aged 12-25) who are from refugee and migrant backgrounds. The consultation will be held over Zoom and we will send you the link ahead of the meeting. You'll be given a $50 gift card to reimburse you for your time. You'll be expected to attend the whole consultation.

This is a consultation co-hosted by the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network of Western Australia (MYAN WA) and the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia (YACWA).

Become a YACWA member!

Over 40 years ago, a small but dedicated group of youth workers banded together to form a united front called the Youth Affairs Council of WA. They were trouble-makers, firebrands and agitators, hell-bent on championing the rights of young people in our state and holding our institutions to account.

Membership at YACWA is a strong and resounding demonstration of your organisation’s commitment to social justice, human rights, and of your genuine desire to ensure young people are heard and empowered to influence society.  By becoming a member, you’ll be lending your name to a movement more than four decades in the making. Your support enables us to speak truth to power, hold government accountable and fight for more just, fair and equitable society for young Western Australians.

Support and resources

Emergency relief support for people on temporary visas

Australian Red Cross has received Government funding specifically to support people who are on temporary visas with a small one-off emergency relief payment. Emergency relief payments are not income support. They are limited and we know may not meet all needs that you have.

The support can only be offered to people in Australia with urgent needs who:

  • are not Australian citizens or permanent residents; and
  • are not eligible for State or Territory funds for temporary visa holders (except those delivered by Red Cross); and
  • have no income or savings and no access to other support

Plan International Youth Consultation Project

Plan International Youth Activists, from Australia and Vietnam, are running amazing youth-led research that focuses on what our new 'normal' could look like as we recover from a global pandemic. They have co-designed a research question, mapped out the challenges and inequalities of the pre-COVID world, and dreamed up their collective vision for the ‘new normal’. This research is open to adolescent girls and young women, in all their diversities – including non-binary and genderqueer individuals aged between 15 and 24.
