Thank You cards from students at Canyon Creek Elementary |

Dear Friends, I hope this finds you well. It's officially fall even though the weather is still warm and hints of summer linger in the air. However, the light is shifting with a slow stretch to stillness and cozy sweaters. I love it! Schools across the country are in full swing taking in the good work one book - line - word - at a time. Pictured above are some super sweet handmade thank you cards from the amazing students at Canyon Creek Elementary. I had the pleasure of visiting their library online. How amazing is that?! Sometimes technology can feel overwhelming and distracting, but it can also be a bridge across space and generations. Connection is the heart of poetry. I look forward to visiting Furious Flower at James Madison University, University of New Haven, and returning to the Texas Book Festival among other events this October. I hope to see you soon! I'm also judging the Joy Bale Boone Poetry Prize, deadline November 16th, so get those submissions in. This harvest season, what will you raise to the light? What did you plant in preparation for today? Warmly, Amanda |

I'm thrilled to be included in the powerful anthology WOMEN OF RESISTANCE: POEMS FOR A NEW FEMINISM and grateful The Rumpus took time to sit with it and mention my poem "When My Daughter Wasn't Assaulted" in this review.

"Amanda Johnston’s first book sings with the passion of our great warrior poets. They reassure me of a fierce connective tissue between us. Johnston’s poems apply just the right degree of salve and just the right degree of fire to our current American wounds." - Toi Derricotte
