Review Focus

In this thrilling adventure, A Fallen Hero blurs the line between science-fiction and fantasy, adding paranormal elements and beings into a war-torn world. In the first novel of the War Of The Realms series, author Sara A. Noë introduces us to a diverse set of characters, following multiple perspectives and viewpoints where the differentiation between good and evil is far from being black and white.

Cato and his surrogate "lab-family" have escaped a government facility where they were being held captive for genetic experimentation and face many obstacles while on the run, making some truly shocking choices in an attempt to protect themselves and the ones they love. Noë’s tactful narrative and deeply layered plotting offer a unique world that readers can fully immerse themselves in to walk alongside heroes and villains. Page by page, this debut novel will hold readers’ attention until the very end, presenting just enough resolution to leave them satisfied while unanswered questions will have them pining for more.

David S. McCrae

Q: Does writing energize or exhaust you?

A: Writing energizes me mostly. When I sit down to work, I start by re-reading the last scene I wrote, and that does a good enough job of pumping me up to continue. In many cases, while writing a draft, I just go full-tilt into writing the narrative and dialogue; effectively ignoring the "rule" that you should write all the dialogue first before adding any narrative. The only two things I focus on are the paragraph I'm writing, and how it will lead into the next paragraph or scene. I love the process; it gives me life.

Q: Do you believe in writer’s block?

A: I do believe in Writer's Block. However, I also believe that many writers fall into the trap of getting distracted by other things, then using Writer's Block as a fallback excuse for procrastinating and being unproductive. I've done it myself, and I feel that no author is immune to it. As writers with stories, dreams, and goals, we have to honest with ourselves and each other, and dedicate to having and holding accountability. While Writer's Block is very much real, we need to make sure it is properly diagnosed before we can take it on and get our drafts done.

Q: Do you prefer to write in the morning, evening, or night?

A: I like the morning. Something about fresh sunlight pouring through the window makes it feel like a brand new day in whatever adventure I'm writing. Sitting down at the computer after a good night's sleep is the perfect thing for engaging my work with a clear, rested mind. I can reread the last thing I wrote and easily slip back into the swing of things. The fact that my full-time job's hours are

3:30 p.m.-12 am has a lot to do with it, too. 😃

Q: Does writing energize or exhaust you?

A: In my experience, it does a fair bit of both. During those too infrequent moments, when the words are flowing and blank pages are filling with tales of adventure, the sense of accomplishment can really have you feeling air light. But, more often, it can be a frustrating thing to find a gap in your schedule to finally get in a bit of writing, only to not be able to string words into a single decent sentence. Like a blind man trying to thread a needle, you can spend hours trying and never seem to get it right.

Q: Do you believe in writer’s block?

A: I feel safe saying that most of my time spent on any given writing project involves me sitting around trying to figure out what to write and how to write it. Frequently, there'll be a scene, scenario, or situation I'm looking forward to writing only to find navigating to that scene from the previous a puzzlingly difficult task. That is writer's block, and it can be a gigantic monolithic stone of a block that plops right along your path. But, while finding a way around, through, over, or under can be challenging, managing can also be rewarding.

Q: Do you prefer to write in the morning, evening, or night?

A: I prefer writing in the morning. Getting a few words in early helps me feel like I'm already on my way to meet my daily writing goal and still have all day

to do it. Though honestly, most of my writing takes place in the evening

to night as I struggle to actually

meet that quota after screwing

around all day with the assurance

that, seeing as I got some in already,

the rest will be done

in no time.

Mr. Laughlin has a few projects that are currently in pre-production.

The Final Take is Adam's first horror short and is set to begin filming in mid-September.  It is a "found-footage" film, but instead of the crew filming a monster, the camera itself is the monster.

Guinea Pig is a project that Adam wrote for college, and will be directed by C'airra Cortez. It's about a vampire escaping containment before the tests that he endures can kill him. This project is expected to be ready by fall.

Adam is also finishing up editing a featurette for an upcoming special edition DVD of a Belle Gunness documentary.

Adam Laughlin is a true creative visionary. His quirky, and sometimes spooky, personality shines through in all of his work. I have seen several of Adam's shorts and photography, and have read a script or two of his before he began filming. I was once even an unwilling subject for his photography because "the sky looked pretty" behind me. Adam is passionate and enthusiastic about everything he works on is quick notice and capture the beauty as well as the darkness in the world around him. It is a pleasure to have him as a part of my creative network.
